Strong reviews aside, Daredevil: Born Again missed the mark for Bullseye actor Wilson Bethel, who found Season 1 a frustrating return—especially compared to the sharper Season 2 now airing.

Alright, let’s get into this. If you’ve been keeping up with Daredevil: Born Again, you probably know that the first season landed with a pretty positive response. Fans, critics, the whole Rotten Tomatoes peanut gallery—most people seem happy. But one particular returning cast member wasn’t exactly thrilled.

Wilson Bethel: Not Quite Feeling Season 1

Wilson Bethel, the guy behind Bullseye (yep, the same Bullseye who made things wild in the Netflix Daredevil season 3), was recently on the Brandon Davis Show. Turns out, the shot-caller himself wasn’t all that impressed by how the new series kicked off.

According to Bethel, the first season let him down—especially compared to what’s happening now in Season 2. To put it bluntly: he wanted fireworks, but felt like they barely lit a sparkler.

'My only frustration, and I don’t think I’m setting the world on fire with this comment, but I think—I have so much respect for what this show is and has been... It was frustrating for me a little bit that we had to settle at all in coming back with that first season. I wanted the quality of this season, Season 2 Born Again, that’s what I wanted for the first season.'

He warmed up a bit after, but you could tell it still bugged him:

'People had been waiting six, seven years... how different does it hit if out the gate you get a f---- banger season of TV? And we had some good moments, but it was not that f---- [level of], "Oh s---! Daredevil’s back." But whatever, man... we made it.'

Critics and Fans: No Big Complaints

Here’s the funny part: A lot of us probably didn’t even notice or care about that supposed drop in spectacle. The numbers say the show’s doing just fine, thank you very much. Season 1 of Daredevil: Born Again is rocking an 87% on Rotten Tomatoes, and the Popcornmeter rating is at 78%. Not too shabby by superhero TV standards—and definitely not a flop.

The Waiting Game (and the Payoff?)

  • Wilson Bethel returns as Bullseye (first appeared in Netflix’s Daredevil Season 3).
  • Daredevil: Born Again launched its first season after a wait of nearly 7 years.
  • Fans were hungry for something big, Bethel felt the show didn’t deliver the immediate punch he (and probably many others) wanted.
  • Despite that, critics and most viewers are solidly on board with Season 1.
  • Season 2 (now airing) is apparently much closer to what Bethel envisioned—a ‘banger’ season, as he put it.

So, there you have it: the guy swinging daggers on-screen felt a little let down, even if the crowd outside the ring hasn’t had the same reaction. It’ll be interesting to see if Season 2 gives everyone—including Bethel—the show they’ve been waiting for since Daredevil vanished off Netflix.
