Zendaya ‘cried multiple times’ at Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s ending
On the Spider-Man: Brand New Day press tour, the cast teased a bruising finale — with one co-star admitting it wasn’t easy to watch.
Marvel fans, brace yourselves. The new Spider-Man: Brand New Day flick is landing in cinemas later this month, and if the cast are to be believed, you might want to slip a packet of tissues into your pocket. It sounds like this one’s going to be a bit of a kick in the teeth, emotionally speaking.
Zendaya, Tom Holland, and Jacob Batalon have just shared a few pointed hints about what’s coming at the end of the film—and let’s just say, they’re not sugar-coating it. Zendaya, ever the straight-shooter, was asked outright if people would be crying in the cinema. Her answer? A firm, no-nonsense 'Yes.' Holland then pipes up: 'Big time.' Apparently, Zendaya didn’t just tear up once—she said, 'I cried multiple times.' Not exactly subtle foreshadowing, that.
'I cried multiple times.'
Holland elaborated (with a certain resigned honesty) that the film is 'very sad.' He claims, 'I don’t know if it’s the best selling point of the movie… but it’s cathartic… but then also devastating.' So, fair warning: if you’re expecting wall-to-wall wisecracks and chirpy Marvel banter, maybe adjust your expectations a bit. Still, classic Marvel—nobody's giving away what actually happens.
The story picks up four years on
This time round, the plot picks up four years after the events of No Way Home. Director Destin Daniel Cretton and writers Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers have Peter Parker living practically like a ghost—thanks to that handy spell from Doctor Strange, the whole world’s forgotten who Peter is, and he’s back to toiling in anonymity. Still Spider-Man, still on the streets of New York, but now with zero backup.
More to the point: he’s got a fresh villain to deal with, plus his own powers have started acting up in ways he can’t explain. No details yet on exactly what that means, but it sounds like Peter’s life isn’t exactly looking up.
Who’s in it this time
- Tom Holland returns as Peter Parker
- Zendaya as MJ
- Jacob Batalon back as Ned
- Sadie Sink (newcomer, always a positive sign)
- Jon Bernthal (never a calm addition)
- Tramell Tillman
- Michael Mando
- Mark Ruffalo (presumably causing Hulk-sized problems, as per tradition)
And, just to keep your calendar in order: Spider-Man: Brand New Day hits UK cinemas on 31 July 2026.
