Kristen Bell and Adam Brody are back as Joanne and Noah, and if you were hoping they'd relax a bit after those last two years of tension—tough luck. Instead, they're packing up and moving in together. Expect all the ‘firsts’ of new domesticity, plus the long shadow of religion still looming. Netflix's first-look images have them looking both delighted and mildly petrified. So, business as usual for this show.
Life, Love and Conversion Classes
If you’re picking up from Season 2, remember: Joanne, resident non-believer and podcast maven, made the grand (and actually quite controversial) decision to convert to Judaism. Meanwhile, Noah—yes, still a rabbi—finally admitted that he’d take her either way. Hardly a small moment. As Season 3 kicks off, we find Joanne about to embark on her ‘Intro to Judaism’ class. The faith questions are still going strong, only now with moving boxes and joint bills on the horizon.
The couple’s focus is less ‘will they, won’t they’ and more ‘can we manage not to fall out over kitchen shelving and rabbinical study on date night.’ Netflix clearly wants us rooting for them to actually survive this next level, rather than just get together. Given their form so far, we’ll see how that goes.
It’s not just Love’s Young Something getting the screentime either. The writers are throwing some storylines back to Sasha (Timothy Simons) and Esther (Jackie Tohn) and their on-again-off-again chaos, while Morgan (Justine Lupe) apparently gets a career glow-up. Old relationship drama between Sasha and Morgan also bubbles up—because one fraught main couple is never enough in a Netflix original.
New Faces, Guest Stars and More
Season 3’s picked up a few shiny new cast members for good measure. Andrew Rannells, Keyla Monterroso Mejia, and Sarah Silverman are joining, and that’s not even counting the parade of guest appearances from Avan Jogia, Poorna Jagannathan, Sadie Sandler, Steven Weber, and Stephanie Koenig. Keep your eyes out for creator Erin Foster as well, popping up for a cameo because apparently running the show isn’t enough.
Behind the scenes, we’re sticking with the same awkwardly comedic flavour, overseen by showrunners Jenni Konner and Bruce Eric Kaplan. Foster remains at the helm as creator and executive producer. New cast to ramp up the chaos, existing cast navigating adulthood and faith—the formula’s the same, but the stakes are (slightly) higher.
