A new video game adaptation is on the way — and it’s already being likened to Terminator colliding with Hunger Games.

Here we go again—another video game is getting hauled onto the big and small screen, because apparently, we haven’t had our fill of pixels-turned-people just yet. And if you thought the Super Mario Bros. box office bonanza was where the run would end, think again. Hollywood is now queueing up ARC Raiders as its next payload.

Just the Latest Adaptation Craze

The last decade has been kickstarted by a landslide of video game adaptations—from Universal’s Chris Pratt-fronted Mario films raking in more than a billion dollars each, to streamers like Amazon and Netflix practically printing subscriptions with live-action Fallout and Arcane. Game-to-screen is practically an assembly line now.

The newest title up for this treatment is ARC Raiders, a multiplayer third-person extraction shooter that only launched in 2025—so, barely had time to cool off before the ink dried on a screen deal. Chernin Entertainment, specifically its North Road Company film/TV arm, snapped up the adaptation rights after a reported scrap with other studios. If the name Chernin rings a bell, they’re the same lot behind the Planet of the Apes reboot and a stack of other film/TV fare, so they know their way round a franchise.

ARC Raiders has shifted more than 16 million copies since its launch in 2025.

The original game comes from Embark Studios—a group under Nexon—and it’s already hoovered up industry awards: best multiplayer title at the 2025 Game Awards, online game of the year at the 29th Annual D.I.C.E. Awards, and a shiny 2026 BAFTA Games Award for multiplayer. In other words, it’s one of those rare cases where the actual game is both popular and, apparently, decent. No word yet on what form the adaptation will actually take—movie, series, or something hybrid—but it’s safe to assume the 'keeping details under wraps' phase will last right up until a major streamer splashes some cash for exclusivity.
