Will Arnett Steps In for David Harbour in Tony Gilroy’s Behemoth!
A shake-up in the cast of Tony Gilroy’s Behemoth! sees Will Arnett taking over from David Harbour, joining a star-studded ensemble in this cinematic ode to film music.
There’s been a bit of a shuffle behind the scenes of Tony Gilroy’s latest project, Behemoth!, as Will Arnett has now taken the reins from David Harbour. The switch comes as the production, described as a tribute to the world of film scores and those who craft them, gathers momentum. Arnett, well-known for his turn in Arrested Development, steps into a role that was previously earmarked for Harbour, with the rest of the cast already boasting some rather familiar faces.
Among those joining Arnett are Pedro Pascal, who’s been making waves in The Last of Us, and Olivia Wilde, whose credits include Cowboys & Aliens. The line-up is rounded out by Eva Victor, Matthew Lillard, Alexa Swinton, Margarite Levieva, and Barry Livingston, each bringing their own flavour to the ensemble. The film, under Gilroy’s direction, promises a look at the unsung heroes behind the music that shapes our cinematic experiences.
Pascal’s Musical Immersion
Gilroy, who previously earned Oscar nods for his work on Michael Clayton, recently shed some light on Pascal’s approach to his character, Alex Serian. The actor has apparently taken to carrying a cello everywhere, immersing himself in the life of a musician both on and off set. Gilroy remarked,
‘He’s a cellist in the film. He’s practising the cello very diligently and plus, we want him to be able to carry the cello anywhere he can,’
giving a glimpse into the dedication Pascal brings to the role.
The director went on to recall a moment from his past work, drawing a parallel with Keanu Reeves’ preparation for The Devil’s Advocate.
‘When we did The Devil’s Advocate, when Keanu [Reeves] first came in I remember we were like, “He’s gonna be a lawyer? Oh my God...”, and I remember Taylor Hackford said three months out: “You gotta put a suit on now and you’re never f****** taking that suit off until we start shooting”, because he looked so weird in a suit. Three months later, he’d worn a suit everywhere he ever went and he had, like, it worked. And carrying a cello case will turn you into a cellist if you do it long enough.’
Behind the Curtain: A Cast in Motion
With Arnett now on board, the production seems to have found its footing again. The cast, a blend of established names and rising talent, is set to bring Gilroy’s vision to life. The film’s focus on the artistry and graft behind film music offers a fresh angle, promising audiences a story that celebrates the often-overlooked contributors to the magic of cinema.
As filming progresses, anticipation builds around how this eclectic group will gel on screen. With Gilroy at the helm and a cast willing to go the extra mile—sometimes quite literally, cello in tow—Behemoth! is shaping up to be a rather intriguing addition to the year’s cinematic offerings.
