Who is Irina's father in Star City? In this family, even a taped conversation about parentage got wiped
Star City, the For All Mankind prequel that premiered on Apple TV on 29 May 2026, gave its most notorious future villain a daughter nobody knew about. Irina Morozova — played as a young KGB transcription officer by Agnes O'Casey, and as the hardened Roscosmos director by Svetlana Efremova in For All Mankind seasons 4 and 5 — arrives at Star City with a child in tow.
The father is never named. Neither is Irina's own.
What episode 3 actually reveals
In "Bad Dancer", Irina's daughter Zoya (Eadie Johnson) turns out to be a piano student of Tanya Markelova (Ruby Ashbourne Serkis) — one of Irina's surveillance targets. Invited into the flat she has only ever heard through headphones, Irina is asked about Zoya's father and gives a six-word answer:
"not a good man", Irina says of him in episode 3.
That is the entire on-record description. Irina then takes a magnet from Tanya's music-theory board back to the listening post and wipes that exact stretch of tape.
Why the erasure is the point
Irina risks her career to delete a few seconds of small talk. The show doesn't explain why, which has left viewers with a set of unproven readings:
- A senior KGB or Politburo figure — the most popular fan theory, on the logic that only a powerful name would be worth erasing.
- Someone already under surveillance — which would make the recording itself the danger rather than the man.
- An assault Irina has no intention of documenting — supported by cast comments about the "very difficult circumstances" around the pregnancy.
None of these is confirmed. O'Casey told Collider in June 2026 that the writers had built the backstory as something waiting to detonate, and that Irina's motherhood is central to who she becomes.
And Irina's own parents?
Star City never introduces them. Across all eight episodes of season 1, Irina has no scenes with a mother or father, no flashback to her upbringing, and no dialogue naming either. The Morozov family tree, as of the finale on 10 July 2026, consists of Irina and Zoya.
Does the finale answer anything?
No. "The Wolves" is busy elsewhere: Irina informs on Sergei Nikulov to Lyudmilla Raskova (Anna Maxwell Martin), a decoy Chief Designer is used to extract a confession, and Sergei and the real Chief Designer both end up imprisoned. Irina's ascent is the point of the episode — the paternity thread is left untouched.
A second season hasn't been confirmed. If it comes, the tape Irina wiped is the loosest thread the show has left hanging, and the one it deliberately drew attention to.
