The question of Vicki Fowler's parentage goes right back to 1985, the very first year EastEnders was on our screens.

It was one of the show's earliest and most talked-about storylines — and it set the template for the bombshell reveals that would become an EastEnders trademark.

The short answer

Vicki's parents are Michelle Fowler and Den Watts.

The long answer

In 1985, 16-year-old schoolgirl Michelle Fowler found out she was pregnant. Her family pushed for an abortion, but Michelle refused. She was determined to keep the baby — and equally determined not to reveal who the father was.

This kicked off a classic whodunnit. Viewers speculated for months. Early suspects included Ian Beale and Kelvin Carpenter, both young lads from the Square. But the truth was far more shocking.

In October 1985 — episode 66, to be precise — the show revealed that the father was Den Watts, the local pub landlord and the adoptive father of Michelle's own best mate, Sharon. Den was a married bloke in his 40s. Michelle was a schoolgirl. The reveal, penned by series co-creator Tony Holland, became a landmark moment in British soap history. A small detail sealed it: Den's dog Roly was spotted jumping out of his motor at the meeting point where Den had been slipping Michelle money on the quiet.

Vicki was born in May 1986. Den was allowed to hold her, but the two agreed to keep their distance. Michelle went on to raise Vicki with her partner Lofty Holloway, and the secret of Vicki's paternity simmered away in the background for years.

Where is Vicki now?

After leaving Walford as a teenager in 2004, Vicki returned to the show in March 2025, now played by Alice Haig. She's pitched up with boyfriend Ross Marshall and is once again part of life on the Square — carrying all the complicated family baggage that comes with being a Watts and a Fowler.
