Where is Peaky Blinders filmed? The Shelbys' streets are real enough to visit — tickets and all
Peaky Blinders is set in Birmingham. It was barely filmed there. Steven Knight's crime drama ran for six series on the BBC between 2013 and 2022, and the cobbles, canals and back-to-backs that made the show look like 1920s Small Heath are spread across four counties and two countries.
Most of them are open to the public. Some now sell tickets specifically for fans.
The Birmingham that isn't Birmingham
The single most-used location is Black Country Living Museum in Dudley, an open-air museum covering 250 years of local history, which appears in all six series. Liverpool supplied the bulk of the rest — a residential street there doubles as Watery Lane. Manchester, Cheshire, West Yorkshire and Aberdeenshire fill in the gaps. Digbeth in Birmingham became a production hub only later, once Knight opened Digbeth Loc. Studios.
Cillian Murphy summed up the Dudley connection on BBC Radio 6 Music in March 2026:
"it's become kind of one of the characters", he told Lauren Laverne of the museum.
The tours you can actually book
Black Country Living Museum launched its official Peaky Blinders Filming Location Tours on 23 May 2026 — guided walks led by a costumed guide through screen-used sets rather than recreations. The route covers:
- Charlie Strong's Yard — in reality the museum's boat dock and Anchor Forge, seen in every series from episode one.
- Canal Street bridge — where Freddie and Ada met in secret in series 1.
- St James's School and the Workers' Institute — Victorian buildings pressed into service as Shelby-era Birmingham.
- The Blacksmith's workshop and canal towpath — the drop-off point for characters heading to the Yard.
Standard admission also gets you a filming-location map. In Liverpool, Brit Movie Tours runs a separate walking tour taking in Polly's house and the spot where Tommy is ambushed by Father Hughes's men.
Arrow House and the rest
Tommy's mansion is Arley Hall & Gardens near Northwich, Cheshire, used from series 3 onwards — the library stands in for his study. Aunt Polly's house is in Port Sunlight on the Wirral, a village built in the 1880s for factory workers, with self-guided maps from the Port Sunlight Museum. The horse fair where Tommy meets May is Victoria Baths on Hathersage Road, Manchester. Every train scene was shot on the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway near Haworth. The Tommy-versus-Alfie Solomons standoff at the end of series 4 is Formby Beach, National Trust land near Liverpool. Series 6 went furthest north: Portsoy in Aberdeenshire played Miquelon Island, with the Shore Inn redressed as the Hotel Lalanne.
Where The Immortal Man filmed
The 2026 sequel film, in cinemas from 6 March and on Netflix from 20 March, added several new sites. Pontcysyllte Aqueduct in north Wales — the highest canal aqueduct in the world, walkable and canoeable. Calke Abbey in Derbyshire, which now runs its own Peaky Blinders walking trail. St George's Hall and William Brown Street in Liverpool. Dudley Canal and the Bumble Hole nature reserve. And Little Germany in Bradford, a district with 55 listed buildings that had already served as the Shelby warehouse in the series.
One extra stop for completists: a 50-metre mural by Brummie artist Jon Jones sits outside Birmingham New Street station, assembled from police records and mugshots of the real gang.
