What Taskmaster series is Noel Fielding in?
Noel Fielding turns up in Taskmaster clip compilations often enough that people assume he's done several runs. He's done one — and he won it, comfortably, without being much good at the tasks that involve measurable outcomes.
The short answer
Series 4, which aired on Dave from 25 April to 13 June 2017 across eight episodes. Fielding won with 144 points, finishing nine clear of Joe Lycett. His fellow contestants were Lycett, Hugh Dennis, Lolly Adefope, and Mel Giedroyc.
The final standings
- Noel Fielding — 144
- Joe Lycett — 136
- Mel Giedroyc — 134
- Hugh Dennis — 129
- Lolly Adefope — 125
Series 4 was the first in which every contestant won at least one episode, and the first in which nobody finished below 100 points.
How he won it
On vibes, essentially. Fielding remains the highest-scoring contestant of all time in subjective tasks, averaging 3.95 out of 5 — the ones judged on whether Greg Davies likes what he's looking at. He also recorded the fewest objective points of anyone in his own series, which makes him the only champion to manage that, and one of only two champions to come last in their series' live studio tasks.
Highlights include camouflaging himself, painting the best picture of the Taskmaster, and making the most exotic sandwich.
Did he come back?
Once. Fielding returned for the first Champion of Champions, a two-part special broadcast on Dave on 13 and 20 December 2017, up against Josh Widdicombe, Katherine Ryan, Rob Beckett, and Bob Mortimer. Widdicombe won it with 37 points. Fielding hasn't appeared on the programme since.
Where it was filmed
Series 4 was the first to record its studio segments at Pinewood Studios, which stayed the home of the show for the next nine years, up to Series 21. Location tasks were mostly shot at Chesham United Football Club rather than the usual house.
Fun fact: in the series 4 finale, "Tony Three Pies.", Fielding picked up a bonus point for eating part of Alex Horne's beard as an ingredient in his sandwich. His winning margin was nine.
