What happens to Aaliyah in Special Ops: Lioness?

Aaliyah Amrohi (Stephanie Nur) appears in all eight episodes of Special Ops: Lioness season 1 and in none since — which hasn't stopped her from dominating the show's fan conversation three years on. Here's her full storyline, and the state of play as of September 2026. Spoilers throughout.

Who Aaliyah is

Aaliyah is the daughter of Asmar Ali Amrohi (Bassem Youssef), a billionaire businessman the CIA identifies as the primary financier of terror groups — the target Washington calls its ace of spades. She's engaged to Ehsan Al Rashdi in an arranged match she has quietly resigned herself to. She meets Cruz Manuelos (Laysla De Oliveira) in a Louis Vuitton shop in Kuwait City, they swap numbers, and a weekend invitation follows — none of which is chance, because Cruz is a US Marine placed there by Joe's (Zoe Saldaña) Lioness programme to get close to the family.

The mission that stopped behaving like one

The engineered friendship works better than the CIA planned. Aaliyah confides her doubts about the marriage and her refusal to believe the Western labels on her father; Cruz keeps telling her to push back, knowing exactly why she can't. In New York the two sleep together, and Cruz admits she's in love — at which point Joe refocuses her with footage of the attacks Amrohi funded, and everyone proceeds to the wedding weekend in Mallorca.

The one flawless part of the operation was the relationship it was never supposed to produce.

The wedding

On the night before the ceremony, Aaliyah comes to Cruz's room to spend a last night together. Cruz starts to tell her the truth, loses her nerve, and goes to the kitchen for water — where she meets Asmar for the first time and finds him kind, even charming. Then Ehsan walks in, having worked out that Cruz is CIA, and confronts her alone. Cruz kills him, kills Asmar, triggers her extraction beacon, and escapes under fire to the QRF team's boat.

Aaliyah survives. By morning her father and her groom are dead and the friend at the centre of her life has vanished with the people responsible. She's last on screen in episode 8, "Gone is the Illusion of Order", which aired on 3 September 2023. Cruz, for her part, quits the programme on the spot:

Her parting argument to Joe: the mission changed oil prices, not history — and Aaliyah was never the target.

Has she been back since?

Not yet. Where the board stands after season 1:

• Aaliyah — alive, per the show's own records, and unaccounted for since Mallorca.
• Asmar and Ehsan — dead, both by Cruz's hand in the season finale.
• Cruz — walked away, returned in season 2 (2024–25) to mentor new Lioness Josie through the cartel operation, and is a full member of Joe's team in season 3.
• Stephanie Nur — no Lioness credits beyond the original eight episodes; her other Taylor Sheridan job was two episodes of 1883.

Season 2's plot went to Texas and a Chinese-backed cartel, with no room for her. Season 3 premiered on Paramount+ in August 2026 and is releasing weekly — Aaliyah hasn't appeared, but the show's official social accounts have been posting her scenes while promoting the season, which fans have read as a deliberate hint. Nothing is confirmed.

For the record: season 3 runs through the autumn. If Aaliyah is coming back, that's the window.
