What happens at the end of The Lincoln Lawyer season 4?
Season 4 of The Lincoln Lawyer arrived on Netflix on 5 February 2026 — ten episodes adapting The Law of Innocence, the sixth book in Michael Connelly's series — and put Mickey Haller somewhere he's never been: the defendant's chair. It ends with a verdict of sorts, a shooting, and four words that reset the entire show.

The case against Mickey
Picking up from season 3's cliffhanger, Mickey (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo) is behind bars after the body of former client Sam Scales was found in the boot of his Lincoln. His ex-wife Maggie (Neve Campbell) crosses over from prosecution to join his defence, facing off against Constance Zimmer's fearsome "Death Row Dana" Berg.
Along the way the season delivers its biggest gut-punch: the death of Mickey's beloved mentor, Legal Siegel (Elliott Gould).
Who actually killed Sam?
Armenian mobster Alex Garizian. He had Sam killed believing Sam was scamming him — without realising Sam was secretly an FBI informant gathering evidence against him. The frame lands on Mickey.
The cruelty is that Mickey works this out and still can't use it: the FBI warns him that exposing the truth in court would compromise their investigation. The case never reaches a verdict — the District Attorney drops the charges instead, and Mickey walks free with his innocence never formally declared.
Then comes the car park
A free man again, Mickey pops to the supermarket and notices a woman watching him. In the car park she suddenly shouts at him to get down — gunfire erupts, cars crash, and the FBI swarms in to make arrests. When Mickey asks his mysterious rescuer who she is, she answers: "Actually, I'm your sister."
Cut to black. That's the season.
Who is she?
She's played by Cobie Smulders, and she's an invention for the series — with a very deliberate purpose. In Connelly's books, Mickey's half-brother is detective Harry Bosch, but Amazon holds the rights to Bosch, so Netflix can't use him. A brand-new sibling lets the show run its own version of that family dynamic. Co-creator Ted Humphrey told ScreenRant the twist was designed to rattle Mickey to his core:
"Make him question everything about who he is or what he thought he knew about himself," Humphrey said.
Season 5 will answer it all — and it's confirmed as the show's final season. The Lincoln Navigator gets one last ride.
