What happens at the end of My Dress-Up Darling? Where the anime stops vs how the story really ends
My Dress-Up Darling closed its second season in September 2025 with a moonlit walk home, a swallowed confession, and a selfie — and no word of a season 3. The manga, meanwhile, finished its story back in March 2025, and it goes much, much further than the anime has dared. Here's exactly where the screen stops and the page keeps going.

Where the anime stops
Season 2's finale adapts the story up to roughly chapter 86 of Shinichi Fukuda's manga, wrapping the big Coffin group photoshoot with the Inui sisters and friends. It then ends on a scene written specially for the anime: Marin, who has finally admitted to herself how deep her feelings run, resolves to confess to Gojo once the shoot is done — then loses her nerve on the night walk home and takes a selfie with him instead.
Sweet, unresolved, and deliberately open-ended. Around 29 chapters remain unadapted, and as of July 2026 no third season has been announced.
"You need to speak up about how you're feeling, for your own sake."
That's Marin's own line in chapter 86 — advice she conspicuously fails to take on screen.
How the story really ends
In the manga's closing stretch, the confession finally happens and Marin and Gojo become a couple. Then the final chapter — chapter 115, published in Square Enix's Young Gangan on 20 March 2025 — jumps years into the future:
- They're married — the ceremony happens off-page, but the wedding photos on the wall and the rings on their hands leave no doubt.
- They live with Gojo's grandfather — complete with a home photography studio full of costumes and props.
- Marin's career — she's a successful professional model, her face on a giant advert.
- Gojo's dream — he's become a professional hina doll craftsman, following his grandfather, and even gets a TV feature about his work.
The chapter closes with a family dinner: Marin's father turns up with celebratory chirashizushi to toast his son-in-law's television debut. After eight years of serialisation, that's the ending — quiet, domestic, and happy.
Will the anime ever get there?
Nothing is confirmed. The remaining 29 chapters are fewer than the roughly 40 each season adapted, so a shorter season, a film, or an OVA would be the natural shapes for a finale. The manga's last page also promised an epilogue and a side story to come.
