What happens at the end of Beef? Season 2 spoilers

The ending, in short: Josh goes to prison, Lindsay moves back to Britain, and an eight-year time jump reveals that Ashley and Austin have become the exact couple they once blackmailed.

The set-up

This season's beef ignites at the Monte Vista Point country club in California. General manager Josh (Oscar Isaac) and his wife Lindsay (Carey Mulligan) are the club's picture-perfect public faces; low-level employees Ashley (Cailee Spaeny) and Austin (Charles Melton) are broke, in love, and returning a lost wallet when they film the couple's near-violent private meltdown on their phones. They use the video to blackmail their way up the ladder — Ashley into a management job, Austin into a physio role he isn't qualified for — under the nose of the club's billionaire owner, Chairwoman Park (Youn Yuh-jung), whose enigmatic marriage to Song Kang-ho's character runs alongside the main war.

How the finale plays out

By episode 8, Josh's secret embezzlement scheme — which he planned to pin on the "entitled little Gen Z" couple — has spiralled into an international conspiracy with the chairwoman's fixers hunting everyone involved. Josh survives an attempt on his life, follows the chaos to Korea, and inadvertently gets Lindsay captured.

His last act is a sacrifice: he agrees to confess to whatever the chairwoman wants, and he and Lindsay share their most passionate kiss just as he's arrested.

Austin, meanwhile, holds the USB stick containing all the evidence. He plans to deliver it to Eunice (Seoyeon Jang), the chairwoman's right hand, whom he's fallen for — until she answers his "I love you" with a flat "love you". Reading the room at last, he redirects the car and hands the evidence to the chairwoman instead. The cover-up holds, Ashley is saved, and the couple's loyalty is rewarded.

The eight-year time jump

• Josh — finishing his embezzlement sentence, oddly at peace, charming inmates the way he once charmed club members.
• Lindsay — back in Britain; she stopped visiting Josh after a year, and he's made peace with that.
• Ashley — the club's new general manager, standing exactly where Josh stood in episode 1.
• Austin — smiling for members with their son Ashton in his arms, staring into the middle distance on the drive home.
• Chairwoman Park — still on top. She always is.

Is the new golden couple genuinely happy, or just starting the cycle again? Melton, speaking to Netflix's Tudum in 2026, argued the final scene is deliberately ambiguous:

"Someone can be tired, and everyone thinks they hate their life."
