Vin Diesel says Fast Forever is rolling cameras right now

Well, it seems NBCUniversal hasn’t completely slammed the brakes on Fast Forever—the supposed final lap of the main Fast & Furious films. Vin Diesel himself popped up on Instagram two days ago, quietly dropping what looked suspiciously like confirmation that filming is finally underway. The man shot a video from inside a garage, and if you’ve watched enough of these movies, you’ll immediately clock Dominic Toretto’s muscle car parked in the background. Classic move, bit on the nose. But let’s be honest, subtlety was never the series’ strong suit.

Diesel Cranks the Engine (Literally and Figuratively)

Diesel starts off his video with:

'I’m on set. People are grinding. Incredible crews are working. I want to take a second to say thank you. You guys are the best audience in the world. The best fans in the world. You’ve been patient with the industry. You’ve been patient to the studio, and you’ve been patient with me.'

He goes on to mention how the last three and a half years have basically been a blur of prepping for this finale and side projects—he namechecks some of his other characters (Kaulder in The Last Witch Hunter and Riddick, naturally), and, in true Vin Diesel fashion, throws in he’s written a new Rock’Em Sock’Em Robots screenplay. Multi-talented, apparently. But to his credit, the main thrust is his appreciation for the fans’ patience as they’ve waited through the marathon run-up to this film.

So, Are They Actually Filming?

Here’s where things get a bit eyebrow-raising. While Diesel tells us it’s all systems go for Fast Forever, outside confirmation is suspiciously thin on the ground. No major entertainment news outlets have flagged up a big production launch, which is strange for a blockbuster of this size. When a Fast & Furious finale actually starts rolling? Usually, it’s a circus. At the moment, though, it’s more like a private garage gathering.

What We (Supposedly) Know About Fast Forever

If you trust IMDB—and yes, sometimes that’s a loaded question—this is the current shape of the project:

• Director: Louis Leterrier, back for another lap after Fast X in 2023
• Cast (reportedly returning): Jason Statham, Jason Momoa, Dwayne Johnson, Nathalie Emmanuel, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Sung Kang, Tyrese Gibson, and Ludacris
• Vin Diesel: Not only starring, but also keeping the fans fed on social media with backstage content

It’s everything you’d expect, but if you’re searching trade outlets for some big set-piece reveal or glossy magazine cover, don’t bother. Either they’re keeping it very close to their chest, or everyone’s off on their holidays for the Fourth of July weekend and letting this one idle quietly in the garage. Or maybe we’re all just waiting for a proper press release and some official photos before the hype machine kicks in.

For now, Fast Forever seems to be in the warm-up phase, with just enough proof of life to keep fans hopeful.
