Robert Pattinson’s The Batman Part II has hit the brakes as Matt Reeves steps away — and DC has explained why.

Not exactly how you want your blockbuster sequel to start off. The Batman Part II, with Robert Pattinson back in the cowl, has unexpectedly ground to a halt in the middle of filming. The reason? Matt Reeves, the director steering this whole thing, has stepped away temporarily due to a family issue.

Production on Pause

The latest news comes direct from DC Studios, who put out an official statement to clarify why everything's stopped. According to Deadline, shooting had already got going in London before Reeves had to hit pause. DC aren't giving any more details, which is fair enough; it's a private matter. They did make a point to emphasise they're behind Reeves all the way, and he's expected back once things settle down on the home front.

Here's DC Studios' official word, as released in their statement: "Production on The Batman Part II has been temporarily paused while Matt Reeves focuses on a family matter. Matt has the full support of DC Studios, and we look forward to continuing the journey soon."

Out on X (still refusing to call it 'Twitter'), reactions have been mostly understanding, with some fans urging everyone to be patient and let Reeves handle what he needs to—though there are always a few who can't resist a joke about the giant "2" on the teaser poster now resembling a pause button. Film Twitter, never change.

Release Date (For Now)

Now, the massive question: will this actually mess with the film's release date? DC is publicly sticking to the originally announced 18 February 2028 slot for its theatrical debut—at least for the moment. That said, Deadline's sources have admitted it’s really too early to tell if the pause will mean a delay further down the line. If the production stop turns into a lengthy one, though, no one should be surprised if that date gets nudged.

The planned release for The Batman Part II is 18 February 2028.

On the creative side, Reeves is still scripting alongside Mattson Tomlin. The returning and new cast is stacked: Andy Serkis (Alfred), Colin Farrell (The Penguin), plus newcomers like Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Brian Tyree Henry, Jayme Lawson, Charles Dance, Gil Perez-Abraham, and Sebastian Koch all have roles locked in—not exactly a lightweight line-up.
