What’s the Deal with Cape Fear?
This one’s from Nick Antosca (yes, the chap behind Channel Zero), serving up a full-fat adult thriller in ten parts. Weekly releases every Friday, so they’re keeping the slow burn going; the finale is pencilled in for 31 July.
The story’s as tense as they come. We kick off with Max Cady (that’s Javier Bardem) – a violent ex-con just out after a long stretch inside for murdering his wife and unborn child. Grim doesn’t begin to cover it. The caveat: his old lawyer, Anna Bowden (Amy Adams), was the one who convinced him to take a guilty plea back in the day, which turned into a life sentence. Now he’s free, he’s got vengeance on the mind, and targets both Anna and her husband, Tom Bowden (Patrick Wilson). What sets it apart is Cady’s clever use of the legal system to go after them, not just brute force.

Audiences... a bit more split on things. That score is 61% at the minute. Maybe the slow-burn weekly format or the relentlessly tense story isn’t for everyone, but it’s grabbed enough attention to put Cape Fear in the streamer’s must-watch category after just two episodes.
