Top 007 contender finally speaks out on James Bond casting rumors
The race to replace Daniel Craig is officially on, and the rumor mill just got a jolt: one touted contender has finally weighed in on whether he’s ready to don the tux as the next 007.
If there’s one thing that gets the internet talking, it’s fresh rumours about who’ll land the keys to the Aston Martin as the next James Bond. It’s officially open season for wild speculation, now that Amazon MGM Studios have finally confirmed that the hunt for Daniel Craig’s replacement is properly underway. And yes, the rumour mill is already working overtime—though one bloke at the centre of it all seems more amused than anything else.
The Bond Search: All Systems Go
Last month, Amazon MGM Studios made it clear: Bond 26 (or whatever they end up calling it) is moving out of development limbo. There’s even a post up on X with a bit of fanfare about kicking off auditions, confirming that the ever-impressive casting director Nina Gold is running the show. If you’ve followed industry chatter at all, you’ll know she’s got a knack for landing top talent—think Game of Thrones, Star Wars, The Crown. To top it off, she was just Oscar-nominated for Hamnet, so the Bond franchise is in safe hands casting-wise.
Also floating around the project: Denis Villeneuve is lined up to direct, while Steven Knight is on script duty—those are names you want if you’re making a big, stylish blockbuster. Amy Pascal and David Heyman are amongst the producers, so expect some heavy-hitters behind the camera as well.
Callum Turner’s Name Gets Thrown in the Hat (Whether He’s After It or Not)
If you follow the bookies, Callum Turner is apparently the man to beat right now. The Hollywood Reporter’s latest Bond round-up outright says he’s topping the odds on betting sites like Kalshi. There are other names in the running, namely Jacob Elordi and Tom Francis, but Turner keeps getting those bolded headlines.
But what does Turner make of the speculation? Well—honestly—not much. When he was asked outright about the 007 talk, he wouldn’t budge. Here’s how the exchange apparently went, with Turner's response to direct questioning:
'I know as much as you do — really, I know as much as you do.'
Pressed on whether he’d at least be interested, Turner just laughed and replied:
'I’m not going to comment on that.'
He did open up about the general weirdness of being rumoured for the part, saying that even mates from years ago have been texting him out of the blue about it. Turner describes it as a situation where everything and nothing is happening at once:
'I’ll tell you what’s so funny about the Bond thing: Even your best friends ask you, people text you that you haven’t spoken to for 10 years — and you know nothing! It’s such a weird thing of something happening and nothing happening at all. I genuinely know nothing. I just find it quite amusing.'
Who Else is in the Mix?
- Callum Turner — bookies' favourite at the moment
- Jacob Elordi — name keeps coming up
- Tom Francis — also getting a mention or two
If you want a bit of celebrity endorsement thrown in, George Clooney apparently couldn’t keep quiet about what he thinks of Turner as Bond material. Without any prodding, Clooney said:
'I hope Callum ends up being the next Bond. I think he would be a great Bond. He’s tall and handsome and charming and British, so he’s the perfect guy to do it.'
Worth noting: all this is still in the guessing and wish-casting phase. No firm casting decisions, no leaked contracts, nothing concrete—just a lot of speculation and a few well-timed laughs from the actors themselves.
As it stands, there’s no release date or official Bond title. The waiting game continues.
