Tom Holland picks the Stranger Things star he wants Spider-Man to meet in the MCU

We have Tom Holland out doing press for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and, as usual, every reporter and their nan is trying to pin him down on what he'd like to see next from the MCU. This time, though, the question actually got a fun answer—one that could genuinely excite Marvel diehards, provided the studio is listening.

The Dream Team-Up

Chatting with Medy Renaldy, Holland didn't mess about when pressed on his top MCU team-up wish for Spider-Man. No coy hints, no vague diplomatic nonsense—he came right out with it: he wants to share the screen with Joseph Quinn. Now, if you're not up to speed with the current state of the MCU, Quinn just played Johnny Storm—that is, the Human Torch—in last year's Fantastic Four: First Steps movie. Basically, he's the new guy flaming on around the block.

I would like to share the screen with I think Joseph Quinn. They have some really fun stuff in the comics, and I think we’d get on really well. That’d be really cool.

If you've read a Spider-Man comic in the last few decades, you know this tracks. Peter Parker and Johnny Storm are basically bickering best mates in the source material—sometimes like brothers, sometimes like rivals, but always skipping around the line between matey and totally annoying. Holland, for what it's worth, seems genuinely game, saying he reckons he'd 'get on really well' with Quinn, and who are we to argue?

Quinn's Up For It, Too

Joseph Quinn hasn't exactly been shy about his own interest, either. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter in 2025, Quinn said he likes the idea of pairing up with Holland on-screen, gushing—a bit, to be honest—that he thinks Holland’s 'Peter Parker is the best one ever.' Frankly, it's rare to see such an honest bit of admiration between superhero actors without a PR handler jumping in. Quinn reckons they'd 'have a laugh,' and is apparently ready to make it happen, should Marvel ever decide to sling these two together.

That pairing makes sense to me and I think he’s brilliant and I’m up for it. I think we’d have a laugh. I’ve never met Tom and I think he’s brilliant; his Peter Parker is the best one ever, I think he’s our best-ever Spider-Man, so why not? Let’s do it, get it moving.

None of this has been officially greenlit by Marvel (yet), but if the stars align, MCU fans could see arguably one of the best comic bromances play out on the big screen. In the comics, Spidey and Johnny have been thick as thieves on countless team-ups, with plenty of banter and a tone that's more genuine friendship than forced superhero mash-up.

Brand New Day’s Massive Cast

Before anyone gets too busy fantasy-booking Spidey meets Torch, bear in mind Spider-Man: Brand New Day is already fit to burst with characters. Tom Holland leads, obviously, and Zendaya and Jacob Batalon are back as MJ and Ned (they never actually go away, do they?). But this round also ropes in Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/Hulk and Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle/The Punisher.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is out in cinemas 31 July 2026.

And it doesn't stop there: Sadie Sink—of Stranger Things fame—is in an as-yet-undisclosed role, so expect wild speculation until the inevitable leak happens. Also among the supporting players: Michael Mando, Liza Colón-Zayas, and Marvin ‘Krondon’ Jones III round out the cast. Frankly, it wouldn’t surprise anyone if the catering budget is bigger than the CGI expenditure this time round.
