After that long wait, Adam Scott has finally spoken up about Severance Season 3 with a promising production update you’ll want to hear.

If you’ve been watching the clock and quietly despairing over when Severance is coming back, Adam Scott has finally thrown us a bone. The lead himself’s officially confirmed that Season 3 is actually shooting—and not just in the vague Hollywood sense. Real cameras, real actors in front of them.

Shooting is officially underway for Season 3, and that’s it.

That’s all the detail Scott was willing to offer when he turned up on the Today Show with Craig Melvin, though you could see the effort it took not to blurt out any spoilers. The man’s media trained if nothing else. We’re apparently only a few weeks into filming, so don’t go marking release dates in the calendar quite yet, but at least the cast have swapped their WFH Zoom faces for the frankly unhinged corridors of Lumon Industries again.

Season 3 Progress (No Spoilers, Promise)

Melvin just couldn’t help but ask about the notorious wait times—Season 2 took three years to show up thanks to the Hollywood strikes—and tried to pin Scott down on whether a repeat’s coming. Scott stayed vague but promised they’re not actively plotting another endless gap:

We’re doing everything we can to try and make sure that doesn’t happen. You never know. We want to make the best show possible, so whatever it takes.

So, not exactly an ironclad guarantee you’ll be unwrapping Season 3 with your Christmas presents, but at the very least, things are in motion and the momentum’s coming from inside the building, not just hopeful press releases.

  • Filming started just a couple of weeks ago—no one’s tipping when they’ll finish.
  • Severance Season 2 only dropped last year (2025), three years after Season 1, thanks to the writers’ and actors’ strikes.
  • The sticking point for S3 isn’t a lack of will—the showrunners and stars are apparently trying to move things along as fast as quality allows.

You probably saw some cryptic hints fly across Twitter at the end of July—executive producer Ben Stiller quoted Kier Eagan and basically winked at fans that work was restarting. Series creator Dan Erickson also posted a photo of Helly and Mark mid-sprint through those low-lit, anxiety-inducing Lumon halls not long after, just for a bit more social media foreplay.

Behind the Scenes

A bit of business news: Apple snapped up Severance from its original backers, Fifth Season, back in February. Fifth Season’s not out of the picture—they’re still executive producing—but Apple’s taking the wheel, just like it did with Silo (acquired from AMC Studios). Makes sense, considering how the platform likes to keep the good stuff close now that awards season proved streaming sci-fi can clean up. At the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards the show led the field with 27 nominations and snagged eight wins, including acting gongs for Britt Lower (lead) and Tramell Tillman (supporting). As of now, Apple isn’t giving any official release date for Season 3.

Severance took home eight Emmy Awards out of a whopping 27 nominations at the 77th Primetime Emmys.
