The Summer I Turned Pretty ended a year ago and is still sitting in Prime Video's top 10

Nearly a year on from its so-called 'final' episode, The Summer I Turned Pretty is still pulling in massive numbers for Prime Video. You'd think by now audiences would have moved on to the next shiny thing, but somehow, the plight of one American teenager and her summer drama at the seaside continues drawing viewers back in droves. Honestly, it's a bit surprising, given teen shows don't often stick this long – at least outside the US.

The Summer I Turned Pretty sits at No. 6 on Prime Video’s top ten English-language TV chart, nearly a year after its apparent series finale aired.

Romance, Beach Houses, and a Global Hit

For those unfamiliar: we're talking about a show pulled straight from the Jenny Han playbook of young adult novels. The Summer I Turned Pretty has everything – first love, awkward family ties, the endless, sun-soaked days at Cousins Beach – the sort of place where youth drama is the main event and you can't take ten steps without tripping over a love triangle. The main character, Belly, spends every summer caught between her long-standing family friends and the anxiety of growing up.

The adaptation hit Prime Video back in June 2022, with Han herself running the show – which likely explains why it translated so well from book to screen. Critics and viewers gave it top marks straight away. Amazon was so confident, they renewed it for a second run before the first even aired, and season 2 landed in summer 2023. The third and supposedly final season came in 2025, wrapping up Belly's coming-of-age arc. Of course, die-hard fans weren’t having any of that “ending” nonsense and kept pushing for more. Amazon seems to have listened, because a film follow-up is now in the works, though details remain under wraps for now.

Still Dominating the Charts

Despite wrapping up nearly a year ago (September 2025, if you’re counting), The Summer I Turned Pretty hasn’t dropped off in popularity one bit. According to the latest batch of stats from Amazon themselves, it remains one of the platform’s most-watched series worldwide.

Amazon recently revealed the viewing charts for August 17 to August 23. For English-language series, The Summer I Turned Pretty came in at number 6 – not too shabby considering some genuinely massive titles were in that lineup:

The Cast and What Makes It Work

This show is very much a modern fairytale for Gen Z, but let's be honest – the themes don't have an age limit. Belly’s struggles with love, growing up, and generally feeling like an outsider aren't reserved for today's teens. Sure, you get all the tropes: love triangles, holiday nostalgia, rich kids and their messy feelings. But to its credit, the writing always circles back to the main thing – Belly herself, played by Lola Tung, who turns out to be the series’ ace in the hole.

Tung’s performance grounds all the drama. The supporting cast is a mixed bag, but honestly, as long as Belly works, the rest are there mainly for context and chaos. The show’s brisk pace and unapologetic focus on youth and escapism make it ideal for marathoning, especially when you want to remember what it was like to have all your feelings dialled up to eleven, and the worst thing in your life was which boy liked you back.
