The Conjuring expansion locks in new release date—here’s when it arrives

If you thought The Conjuring: The Last Rites was really the end of ghostly business for this franchise, you might want to hold off on packing away your Ouija board. Warner Bros. and New Line are very much still at it, and honestly, they’re not even pretending otherwise any more. The Conjuring Universe is getting even more spin-offs and prequels, and a couple of release dates have just shifted around in a recent studio calendar shuffle.

Yes, Another Conjuring Prequel – and TV Series

First up, The Conjuring: First Communion will be taking us back in time to meet Ed and Lorraine Warren in their younger, even more haunted days. The casting's just landed: Garrett Wareing and Amanda Fix will be donning the period fashions of baby-faced Warrens. Mark your diary for 10 September 2027 if this is your sort of thing.

Not content with just more films, HBO Max is developing a new series set somewhere in the endless fabric of The Conjuring Universe. Details are typically thin, but it’s happening.

The Revenge of La Llorona Gets a New Date

The other big development: The Revenge of La Llorona, sequel to 2019's The Curse of La Llorona, has had its release date bumped up. Originally scheduled for April 2027, it’ll now show up in cinemas on 27 February 2027. The vacated April slot hasn’t stayed empty for long—it’s now reserved for Panic Carefully, a thriller from Sam Esmail—which, by the way, is loaded with big names: Julia Roberts, Elizabeth Olsen, Brian Tyree Henry, and Eddie Redmayne. Why not? Awards season always loves a curveball.

The Revenge of La Llorona: What’s New?

Just to keep things extra confusing: The La Llorona films are in The Conjuring Universe… but not really 'in' it, officially. That’s mostly thanks to Peter Safran, the producer behind the main Conjuring films, sitting out these ones. Instead, they’re handled by Atomic Monster, James Wan’s company (Wan, of course, is the original Conjuring director). The first film even had Tony Amendola return as Father Perez from Annabelle, and the Annabelle doll itself put in a quick cameo—so the threads are all tangled, franchise-wise.

This sequel will again be directed by Santiago Menghini (who did No One Gets Out Alive), and the main cast includes Monica Raymund (Hightown), Jay Hernandez (Suicide Squad), and Edy Ganem (9-1-1). If you remember the first film, Raymond Cruz is back as Rafael Olvera. Others joining the fun: Martín Fajardo, Acston Luca Porto, and Avie Porto. Cameras started rolling back in August 2025.
