Robert Pattinson calls The Batman: Part II a radical retelling of 'that moment', and won't say which moment

If you thought The Batman: Part II would just be more of the same moody Gotham from last time, you might want to brace yourself. Robert Pattinson is promising some ‘radical’ new directions for his next outing as Bruce Wayne, and from what he’s hinted, this isn’t some minor tweak or nudge to the formula. It sounds like the sequel is heading off-road compared to the first film, and Pattinson is genuinely buzzing about it — so, naturally, the fans are, too.

Shaking Up Gotham

In a recent interview, Pattinson dropped a string of rather striking comments about what Matt Reeves is cooking up for the second chapter. He’s been poring over early scenes from the new shoot and, apparently, it doesn’t look much like the last one. Here’s how Pattinson himself summed things up in that chat:

Matt just wrote this amazing script. It's difficult to reinvent Batman as this new thing. And then to kind of go in another totally different direction...Even when I'm just looking at the playback on certain things, it looks different to the first one. It's just amazing. It's quite a radical change of the script.

If you’re wondering what exactly is being reinvented or which bit of Batman’s timeline is being overhauled, you’re not alone. Pattinson stayed annoyingly vague about any real plot details. He lobbed another comment about the new approach, though, suggesting it’s something only Reeves could actually get away with:

I think Matt is the only person who anybody would allow to do it, because it's kind of a really radical retelling of that moment. I think people are going to be excited by it.

No explanation of what “that moment” refers to — could be the origin, could be something else, but he’s keeping schtum. Any guesses you make now are probably as good as anyone’s outside the Warner Bros. lot.

Cast and Release Date

Here’s what we do know for certain: Reeves is directing again, Pattinson is back in the cowl, and a few big new faces have signed on — specifically, Sebastian Stan, Scarlett Johansson, and Charles Dance. Who they’re playing remains under wraps for now, which at this point seems to be this production’s signature move. The only thing actually set in stone is when you’ll get to see it in a cinema.

The Batman: Part II is scheduled to hit UK cinemas on 18 February 2028.

That’s a long wait to find out what all this “radical” business really means.
