Teyana Taylor shares her enduring love for a classic romantic comedy, while the article delves into her acting journey, personal favourites, and recent life changes.

In 2025, it’s difficult to avoid the cultural impact of One Battle After Another. Paul Thomas Anderson’s ambitious, era-defining political thriller has dominated conversations since its release. While not everyone was swept away by its charms, the majority of critics and audiences have been thoroughly captivated, and it’s widely expected to feature heavily at the 2026 Academy Awards. The performances of Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, and the memorably named Chase Infiniti have all attracted attention, but there’s a strong argument that Teyana Taylor is the film’s true revelation. As Perfidia Beverly Hills, the sharp-tongued, gun-wielding spouse of DiCaprio’s character, Taylor may not appear throughout, but her presence is impossible to ignore when she does.

This role marks a significant milestone in Taylor’s acting career. Having shifted her focus from music—her vocals can be heard on Kanye West’s landmark album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy—she has steadily built a reputation for herself on screen. Now, with a part in one of the year’s most discussed films, curiosity about her personal preferences has only grown.

Personal Favourites and Surprising Choices

When asked about her all-time favourite film, Taylor was unequivocal.

“My favourite movie of all time is Pretty Woman,”

she told Us magazine.

“I’ve watched it so many times.”

The 1990 romantic comedy, directed by Garry Marshall, was the first to pair Richard Gere and Julia Roberts. Their on-screen chemistry turned the film into a box office sensation, earning over $460 million from a modest $14 million budget. For Roberts, it was a transformative moment—catapulting her from relative obscurity to Oscar-nominated stardom. The film remains a beloved classic, even if Gere himself has reportedly grown less fond of it over the years.

Taylor’s admission came as part of a feature titled ‘25 Things You Didn’t Know About Me’. Alongside her affection for the iconic romcom, she shared a few more personal favourites: a biography of fashion designer Gianni Versace tops her reading list, Hawaii is her preferred holiday destination, and she has a soft spot for what she calls “old school rock bands”—namely Green Day and Blink-182. One can only sympathise with those who now find themselves labelled as “old school” by a new generation; rest assured, you’re still quite with it.

Life Beyond the Screen

The article also touched on Taylor’s relationship with NBA player Iman Shumpert, which appears to have influenced her choice of sports team—the Sacramento Kings. When prompted to name her favourite things about Shumpert, Taylor responded with characteristic candour:

“his height and his man parts”.

Unfortunately, their marriage came to an end in 2024, suggesting that some things, however impressive, aren’t always enough to keep a relationship going.

Despite changes in her personal life, Taylor’s devotion to her favourite film remains steadfast. In a 2025 interview with Letterboxd, she once again named Pretty Woman among her ‘Four Favourites’. It’s rather heartening to see that, after all these years, she continues to be charmed by this unlikely tale of Hollywood romance.
