Sydney Sweeney’s Sleepy Hollow has found its Brom Bones, but still no Ichabod Crane
Sydney Sweeney’s Sleepy Hollow remake has just recruited a fan-favourite TV actor opposite her in Sony’s gothic reimagining, Hollow — and yes, Brom Bones finally has a face.
If you like your horror on the gothic and sexually charged side, there’s a new Sleepy Hollow adaptation coming down the pipeline—this time, courtesy of Sydney Sweeney and Sony Pictures. And she’s not charging in alone: the film has just cast its very own Brom Bones, a role that’s been hanging in the balance for weeks, if you’re the type tracking all these development bits.
The Sleepy Hollow Shuffle
Belmont Cameli, best known for cropping up recently in Amazon’s Off Campus (and nicking 36 million eyeballs in under two weeks), is officially joining Sweeney’s Sleepy Hollow project—now titled simply Hollow. According to the usual trades, he’ll be running riot as Brom Bones, the notoriously rowdy love interest.
Cameli’s Amazon series, Off Campus, pulled in 36 million viewers in its first 12 days.
This version of the story isn’t your grandad’s fairy tale: it’s been cooked up from Lindsey Anderson Beer’s upcoming debut novel, which gives Katrina Van Tassel the driver’s seat. Sweeney will take on Katrina, wrapped up in a paranormal love triangle. Think psychological tension, gothic moodiness, and—because Hollywood can never resist—some saucy thriller business for good measure.
Beer herself is scripting and directing, which makes sense given she wrote the book (which, mind you, isn’t even out until autumn 2027; that’s some forward planning if you ask me). When it does drop through Putnam, it’ll be getting a global push with translations stacked up as well. Sony, ever hungry for some horror IP, locked it up fast.
Who’s Bankrolling and Who’s Missing?
Production duties are a real pile-up: it’s LuckyChap (yes, the Margot Robbie outfit), Beer’s own Lab Brew banner, and Sweeney’s shiny new Honey Trap company, for whom this is the first proper film gig. Kaylee McGregor is heading production there and, by the way, they’ve just inked a first-look deal with Sony. Expect more out of them if this goes well.
Cameli joins as one half of the leading men triangle, but there’s still a big blank space under Ichabod Crane: that casting is yet to drop. The production apparently called up its shortlists and moved fast on Cameli and the other open male lead, but no Ichabod news yet.
Cameli’s career has really taken off since Off Campus; he was also spotted in Until Dawn and The Alto Knights recently. On the other side, Sweeney keeps racking up big vehicles, coming straight off The Housemaid (with Amanda Seyfried) and critical nods for Christy, where she boxed her way through David Michod’s lens. Producers clearly like her current streak.
As for Beer—if the name’s familiar, it’s probably from her directing Pet Sematary: Bloodlines last year for Paramount+, which somehow managed to set viewership records for the streamer. For reps, Cameli’s being handled by Gersh, Brillstein, Viewpoint, and Hansen Jacobson, if you’re building a Rolodex.
