The Boys boss Eric Kripke just picked his winner in the Superman vs. Homelander showdown — and it isn’t the Kryptonian. In an interview with The Wrap, he lays out why Homelander would take the fight.

Let's be honest, comic book debates rarely get more heated than the old 'who'd win in a fight: Superman or [insert power-mad lunatic here]?' This time, though, The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke has thrown his own favourite supervillain into the mix—and isn't shy about picking his champion.

Kripke Picks His Monster

Speaking to The Wrap, Kripke was asked the definitive pub quiz question: Superman versus Homelander—who actually takes it? With zero hesitation, he put his money on Homelander. No real surprise there, given he literally writes the bloke every week, but his reasoning is what's genuinely interesting (and a tad chilling).

"Is Superman stronger? Probably. But is Homelander willing to murder Lois Lane, rip off Jimmy Olsen's face and wear it as his own, and tear Krypto apart? Homelander just doesn't have Superman's morality—that's his real advantage."

Yes, that's the actual logic. Homelander doesn't play by the rules. If anything, he'd turn the rulebook into a murder weapon. Superman, meanwhile, is still worrying about his conscience and the innocent bystanders. Let's face it, Clark Kent is never going to weaponise someone's best mate just to win a fight.

Morality: Kryptonite for the Man of Steel?

Kripke doubled down on his stance, saying the fight isn't really about raw power—though he gave Superman that particular edge. The big difference is that Homelander will do literally anything to win, from murder to good old-fashioned psychological warfare.

If you've been keeping up with The Boys (and really, how could you not?), you know Homelander never let a moral compass get in the way. Superman's drawn-out crisis of conscience would give Homelander all the space he needs to go full psychopath.

A Brutal End (Spoilers Ahead, Mind You)

Now, if you're not up to speed with The Boys Season 5, here's your warning: spoilers coming in hot.

  • Kripke 's decision to kill off Homelander in Season 5, Episode 8 wasn't just for shock value. He genuinely wanted viewers to see what the man looks like with all the power stripped away. In his words: "Take away those powers and you are nothing," which hits close to the core of Homelander's character—cocky until he's backed into a corner, and absolutely crushed when he can't just laser-eye his way out of trouble.

What's Next for The Boys?

While the curtain's come down on the main show, Kripke and crew aren't done yet. There's already a new spin-off in the pipeline—Vought Rising—landing next year on Prime Video.

So, if you're desperate for more super-powered mayhem (or just like watching people try to out-psychopath each other), there's still plenty more to come on the small screen.
