Angourie Rice is filming a beach-set Pride and Prejudice she wrote with her mother — Netflix is making its own version at the same time
Austen fans, take note: Pride & Prejudice is getting a TV spin starring Spider-Man star Angourie Rice, adapting her and her mum’s buzzy BookTok take.
If you thought you were done with Pride & Prejudice reboots, think again. There’s a new one in the works—modern, Australian, and loaded with a bit of Hollywood sparkle. Angourie Rice, best known for playing Betty Brant in the Tom Holland Spider-Man films, is front and centre in this updated version titled Stuck Up & Stupid.
Production is underway in Sydney but there’s no word yet on when this eight-episode Amanda Woodward-style drama will actually hit our screens.

Right, here’s how it shakes out. Stuck Up & Stupid started life as a bestselling BookTok darling, written by Angourie herself with her mum, Kate Rice. They’ve taken Jane Austen’s classic tale and let it loose under the Australian sun, with added showbiz chaos for good measure. Think beach vibes instead of bonnets, and the odd influencer swapping out the landed gentry—because why not?
A New Setting for an Old Story
This series isn’t just shoving Austen into skinny jeans and calling it a day. The heart of the story—social pressures, snobbery, and misunderstandings—now plays out on Pippi Beach, where 18-year-old Lily (Angourie) just wants a peaceful summer until a swarm of Hollywood stars shows up and upends everything. Among them is Dorian Khan, a film star with the perfect amount of self-importance, played by Brendon Tremblay.
Of course, Lily’s mum is absolutely besotted with the celebrity arrivals—picture Mrs Bennet with a smartphone and you get the idea. Lily herself, though, isn’t buying the hype. At first. Broadly, it’s the old friction between grounded girl and glamorous new arrival, only swapped from the English countryside into a sun-drenched Aussie hotspot.

It’s worth mentioning this one is hitting while Netflix is prepping its own take on Austen’s most famous novel—which means double the Bennet energy for those who can’t get enough. This one, though, promises full-throttle sun, sand, and star-struck neighbours. Filming’s in partnership with Stan (one of Australia’s streaming platforms), Goalpost Pictures, and CBS Studios.
