Spider-Man: Brand New Day box office collection: it just took a domestic record Star Wars had held for over a decade
Sony's sequel spent seven weeks grinding toward a number that hadn't moved since 2015. Here's what Spider-Man: Brand New Day has actually collected, how the domestic record finally changed hands, and the caveat that comes attached to it.
For eleven years one figure sat at the top of the all-time domestic chart, and nothing got close enough to make it interesting. It changed hands in September 2026 by roughly the price of a used car.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day passed Star Wars: The Force Awakens on 16 September 2026 with $936.7 million in the United States and Canada, against the 2015 film's $936.6 million. That's a margin of about $100,000 on a $936 million total — 0.01%. Destin Daniel Cretton's film, which opened on 31 July 2026 with Tom Holland, Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Mark Ruffalo and Tramell Tillman, has since pushed on to roughly $944 million domestic through 52 days in release.
What it collected on the way there
The record was never really in doubt after the first three days. The film set an opening weekend of $360.1 million, beating the $357 million Avengers: Endgame posted in 2019, off a single-day high of $169.8 million.

The domestic multiplier came in around 2.6x, which is the number that actually explains the record: plenty of films open huge, very few hold for seven weeks against a $225 million budget's worth of expectations.
Where it sits globally
Worldwide, Brand New Day stands at about $2.48 billion, with $1.53 billion of that from international markets. That makes it the third-highest-grossing film ever released, behind Avatar and Avengers: Endgame and ahead of Avatar: The Way of Water. Reviews held up too — 90% on Rotten Tomatoes, 66 on Metacritic.

The losing side took it well. The official Star Wars account marked the milestone on X with "Impressive. Most impressive," a line from The Empire Strikes Back, and congratulated Cretton, Holland and the Sony and Marvel teams.
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige credited the run to the character and to Holland, who is now the highest-grossing actor in history by cumulative box office.
The asterisk
None of these figures are adjusted for inflation, and the gap between 2015 and 2026 ticket prices is not small. On an inflation-adjusted domestic chart, Gone with the Wind still leads by a distance no modern release will touch, and The Force Awakens sold considerably more tickets than Brand New Day did to reach a nearly identical dollar total.
Raw dollars are how the industry keeps score anyway. For the record: the film's first trailer pulled 718.6 million views in 24 hours before anyone had seen a frame of the finished thing.
