Spider-Man 4 swings past Black Panther, setting another box office record
Four days in, Spider-Man 4 has already cruised past a heavyweight domestic box-office benchmark.
Here we go again – Spider-Man: Brand New Day is out there stomping on box office records like it’s got something to prove. The latest target? Black Panther’s so-called “biggest Monday ever” record, which, frankly, wasn’t exactly begging to be smashed this hard. Four days after release and the web-slinger’s still making the rest of Hollywood look sluggish.
Spider-Man 4 raked in more than $46 million on Monday – comfortably beating Black Panther’s old record of $40.15 million and even eclipsing Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which sat at $40.1 million for a December release back in 2015.
If you’re wondering, Sony hasn’t even bothered dishing out an official final tally yet. Still, the maths isn’t hard: this record-breaking Monday sent Spider-Man 4 to a jaw-dropping $406 million estimated domestic take in just four days. Makes it the third-highest-grossing film of 2026 in North America – just behind Toy Story 5 ($463.3 million) and the Super Mario Galaxy Movie ($429.8 million). Also worth noting: Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey recently hit $405 million, so clearly, we’re living through an era of box office blockbusters trying to out-muscle each other.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day crossed the $1 billion mark in global box office receipts, making it the fourth film in 2026 to pull that off, after Toy Story 5, Super Mario Galaxy Movie, and Michael. It’s now officially the second fastest film ever to hit $1B globally, trailing only Avengers: Endgame.
How’d Spider-Man Pull This Off?
This wasn’t a squeaky start that built momentum over time. Spider-Man 4 landed with a massive opening weekend and the numbers haven’t wilted once. Tom Holland’s still drawing fans in droves, with “double-digit” millions each day since release. Not a bad day’s work for Marvel and Sony.
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and produced by powerhouse duo Amy Pascal and Kevin Feige, Brand New Day has crashed right into Marvel’s list of all-time theatrical juggernauts. If it keeps up, it could even overtake the biggest “second weekend” in US cinema history – a spot still held by Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($149.2 million) and closely followed by Avengers: Endgame ($147.3 million). At the current clip, don’t be surprised if Spider-Man boots both down a place.
