Slow Horses is shooting season 8, the last one Mick Herron’s books can cover so far
Christopher Chung has revealed where production on Slow Horses Season 8 stands, teasing when Apple TV+’s hit spy thriller might finally call it a day.
If you're following Slow Horses on Apple TV+, you know the show has been powering along at a very un-British pace – practically one new season a year, each tackling another Mick Herron spy novel. Now, thanks to Roddy Ho himself – that is, Christopher Chung – we've got an honest update about where things stand with the series' future. If you're wondering how much further they can take these glorious office misfits, you might want to pay attention here.
Season 6 of Slow Horses holds a pristine 100% Rotten Tomatoes score ahead of its finale airing on 21 October 2026.
The filming situation – and what comes next
In a recent interview, Christopher Chung revealed that Season 7 finished filming, and Season 8 is now in active production. Honestly, production on this show seems to run like clockwork. Of course, whether there will actually be a Season 9, nobody even in the cast seems to know. Chung admitted the producers keep that sort of thing very close to the chest:
Asked if Slow Horses has a confirmed future beyond season 8, Chung replied, "They literally don't tell me."
He did have a bit of a laugh about it, saying he might need to nudge author Mick Herron to write faster, since they're quickly catching up with the novels.

Running out of book material
Here's where the timeline gets a bit wonky. Each season up till now has covered one book, but Season 6 broke that formula, adapting both Joe Country and Slough House in the same run. Season 7 is set to adapt Bad Actors, and Season 8 tackles Clown Town – and that's, for now, where the published novels run out. Unless Herron has more ready to go, the end of Season 8 could see the series caught up with its source material and possibly forced to take a break or risk going off-script.

Herron has told RadioTimes.com that he's working on more Slough House novels, but nobody (possibly not even him) knows how many or when they'll arrive.
What about the cast and release schedule?
The series has managed genuine consistency, both in quality and scheduling. Gary Oldman (Jackson Lamb) keeps insisting he loves playing the grumpy boss, and the core cast – Jack Lowden, Saskia Reeves, Kristin Scott Thomas, Aimee-Ffion Edwards – are all likely to return. Chung, for his part, sounds happy to stay as long as they'll have him.
- Season 6 ends in October 2026
- Season 7, if trends hold, would probably land sometime in autumn 2027
- Season 8 is on track for September 2028, provided nothing major goes off the rails
