Steve Martin just dropped a welcome update on Only Murders in the Building Season 6, hinting at good news for the release date after last year’s renewal. The hit whodunit starring Martin Short, Selena Gomez, and Meryl Streep is revving up for its next chapter.

Dust off your podcast gear, folks – because 'Only Murders in the Building' has officially started rolling on Season 6. About time, frankly. If you felt the wait dragging on since that frenetic Season 5 finale last October, you're definitely not alone. But looks like the team is back together – and they're not exactly keeping it hush-hush.

What's Actually Happening?

After Hulu renewed the series following last year’s climax, the production machine has finally lurched into action. There’s no dramatic teaser trailer or cryptic pigeon message; just a good old Instagram post from the official account, which is apparently how TV announcements work now. The photo featured creators Steve Martin and John Hoffman grinning alongside the star-studded regulars, and the caption was blunt enough: "Season 6 Day 1!"

Steve Martin himself was also quick to jump on the celebratory bandwagon. He posted a snap with co-stars Selena Gomez, Da'Vine Joy Randolph, and Martin Short. But here’s where it gets more interesting – Martin's update said: "OMITB hits London! What a ball to be here and to stroll along the Seine."

Now, I know my geography and that’s definitely not New York. So either half the cast is disoriented, or this season is heading off on a bit of a European jaunt. Has Arconia relocated? Or is it a classic case of American celebs mixing up their rivers? We'll see.

Who’s In, Who’s Back, Who’s New?

Expect to see your core trio back together:

  • Steve Martin as the perennially bemused Charles Haden Savage
  • Martin Short as the ever-theatrical Oliver Putnam
  • Selena Gomez as the much cooler-than-the-rest Mabel Mora
  • Da'Vine Joy Randolph back in the mix
  • Oh, and don’t forget Meryl Streep hanging around from her recent stint – as if anyone could

Full cast details are under wraps, but if pattern holds, a few surprise names will probably pop up just when you least expect.

What’s the Story This Time?

The show's co-creator John Hoffman recently told TV Insider that, in terms of plot, they’re aiming to shake things up again – but without giving the game away. In true ambiguous-showrunner fashion, he teased:

"I can only tease that – I won’t say whether or not there will be a murder at the end of this season, but if there were, I think there’s an opportunity for more surprise that we will look to shake things up in a potential next go. Nothing is at its end."

Translation? They're probably not killing off your favourite just yet, but they do want you worried.

How Long Can This Go On For?

Comedy-mystery series about amateur sleuths can sometimes fall off a cliff after too many twists, but Hoffman insists there’s still juice in the tank. He essentially said there’s always a risk of the concept wearing thin – 'how long can this thing go on?' – but that nearly every time the writers think they’ve run dry, someone comes up with a fresh idea and off they go again.
