Sebastian Stan says The Batman Part II is still shooting, and calls it a long winter
Sebastian Stan has teased, cryptically, how much filming is left on Matt Reeves’ DC sequel The Batman: Part II — and his answer only deepens the mystery.
Now, here’s a curious one: The Batman: Part II is quietly ticking along with its blockbuster ambitions, Matt Reeves still in charge, Robert Pattinson back in the cape, and yet details on the ground are locked up tighter than Arkham Asylum on a good day. The latest tease comes courtesy of Sebastian Stan at the Toronto International Film Festival — but don’t dust off your detective skills just yet, because he’s not giving away much, unless cryptic hints are your thing.
A very long time.
That bit came straight from Stan, who dropped the line on the TIFF 2026 red carpet when ScreenRant cornered him about how much longer filming on The Batman: Part II will actually take. He also described the grand shoot as 'a long winter', so unless this is all subtle nodding to the film’s tone, it sounds like production isn’t even close to wrapping. Brace yourself if you expected juicy reveals: Stan might be on set for the foreseeable.
Who’s Playing Whom?
Stan’s role is, of course, a great big question mark. Loads of folks initially pegged him as Harvey Dent — classic duality, makes sense. But lately, internet whispers have swung wildly the other way, speculating he could be playing Victor Zsasz thanks to his new bald-headed look. If you’re unfamiliar, Zsasz is one of Batman’s nastier villains — a serial killer with a penchant for tally marks. So far, no one’s confirming anything, so consider it all educated guessing (or wishful thinking).
It’s not just Stan complicating the guessing game. Scarlett Johansson is on board, and needless to say, her part is also under wraps. Early unofficial chatter linked her to Gilda, Harvey Dent’s troubled wife, or even Poison Ivy, but those bits have slipped further into rumour territory after some recent set leaks. The latest on Johansson? She might be someone entirely new, and supposedly has a connection with Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne, though again — all unverified, so don’t start making bets.
The Star-Packed Cast and the Wait
One thing we do actually know: this film boasts a proper ensemble. Alongside Stan and Johansson, you’ve got Brian Tyree Henry (he’s doing Dope Thief), Charles Dance (Game of Thrones alumni), Jeffrey Wright (who was in Westworld and Highest 2 Lowest, that indie darling), Andy Serkis (yes, Gollum himself, also in Young Washington recently), and Colin Farrell (still riding high off The Banshees of Inisherin). Of course, Robert Pattinson returns as Gotham’s favourite nocturnal billionaire.
The Batman: Part II lands in cinemas on 18 February, 2028.
- Sebastian Stan’s character: rumoured, but unconfirmed. Possibilities? Harvey Dent (classic, but maybe too obvious), or a villain like Victor Zsasz (wildcard, but his shaved head is fuelling the gossip).
- Scarlett Johansson’s casting: Possibly Gilda, maybe Poison Ivy, or maybe someone brand new — current set leaks make it even murkier.
- Cast also features Brian Tyree Henry, Charles Dance, Jeffrey Wright, Andy Serkis, Colin Farrell, and of course, Robert Pattinson.
- Shooting is nowhere near done, per Stan’s own vague words: the production stretch continues, so don’t expect new details to drop any time soon.
