School of Rock cast: where are they now? The kids never left the group chat — and one wedding pulled nine of them back together

Richard Linklater scouted the country for real 13-year-old musicians rather than trained child actors, and most of them walked away from the industry the moment filming finished. They didn't walk away from each other.

On 4 January 2025, Caitlin Hale — Marta, "Blondie", one of the three singers — married Angelo Massagli, who played the band's security man Frankie, at Park Château Estate & Gardens in East Brunswick, New Jersey. Nine of their former classmates were among the 150 guests. Jack Black was invited and couldn't make it.

The group chat did it

Hale and Massagli first met at auditions in 2002; he's said she was called in ahead of him and blew the roof off the room singing show tunes. They lost touch for over a decade. Then the chat did what it had always done.

"We have a group chat where all the School of Rock kids, we just hit each other up whenever someone moves somewhere new or is doing something different," Massagli told Inside Edition in May 2021. "So Caitlin is like, 'Hey, I'm moving down to Florida.'"

By 2017 they were both there — she doing a master's, he at the University of Miami law school. Lunch, then drinks, then dating by late 2018. He proposed in June 2023 in the Temple of Dendur room at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, wanting what he called a classic New York engagement. The reception had a saxophonist, a live painter and a man making cannoli tableside; Massagli wanted it to feel like Studio 54 never closed.

Who was in the room

• Rivkah Reyes (Katie, "Posh Spice") — actor, writer and podcast host, who has written publicly about the wreckage of child stardom and entered recovery in 2018. Posted the wedding video, soundtracked to Stevie Nicks' "Edge of Seventeen".
• Brian Falduto (Billy, "Fancy Pants") — country singer-songwriter and certified life coach; runs The Gay Life Coach Podcast.
• Joey Gaydos Jr (Zack, "Zack-Attack") — still making music, with a self-titled album in 2004 and EPs as recently as 2020.
• Aleisha Allen (Alicia, "Brace Face") — did two Ice Cube comedies, then studied at Pace and Columbia and became a speech-language pathologist.
• Maryam Hassan (Tomika, "Turkey Sub") — releases music under the name Mayhrenate.
• Robert Tsai (Lawrence, "Mr Cool") — went to Dartmouth, kept playing piano, never acted again.
• Zay Infante (Gordon, "Roadrunner") — credited in 2003 as Zachary Infante; has since come out as a transgender woman and changed her name.
• Cole Hawkins (Leonard, "Short Stop") — the only child cast member with a real pre-2003 résumé, including Big Daddy and Meet the Parents; last credit 2006.
• James Hosey (Marco, "Carrot Top") — the band's special effects man, out of the industry.

The ones who kept going

Miranda Cosgrove, who played band manager Summer with one prior credit to her name, went straight into Drake & Josh, then iCarly and its Paramount+ revival, plus the Despicable Me films. Mike White wrote the screenplay and played Ned Schneebly; he now writes and directs The White Lotus, whose fourth season is shooting in France. Joan Cusack and Sarah Silverman never stopped working. Jack Black has spent two decades being Jack Black.

The one who isn't here

Kevin Clark played Freddy Jones, "Spazzy McGee", and never took another acting job. He drummed in Chicago for Dreadwolf and Jess Bess and the Intentions. On 26 May 2021 he was killed at 32 when a driver hit him while he was cycling at Western and Logan on the city's north-west side.

For the record: the last proper reunion before the wedding was a 10th-anniversary screening in Austin in August 2013, where the band played "It's a Long Way to the Top" live. Everyone came except Cole Hawkins. He made this one.
