Scary Movie’s Extended Cut lands on digital with new scenes, alternate ending, extras

If you happen to be a glutton for cringe or just have a soft spot for relentless spoofing, here's your public service announcement: Scary Movie – Extended Cut has landed on Digital, courtesy of Paramount Home Entertainment. Yes, they've actually tacked on new material and spliced together an even longer version for fans who weren't satisfied by the original barrage of gags.

The new version packs in an alternate ending, extra scenes, more jokes, and several behind-the-scenes features.

What's Changed?

So what's actually new here beyond the pleasure (or pain) of revisiting 90s-style pop culture send-ups? Paramount claims this cut runs further off the rails, adding "more laughs, more madness, and all-new scenes" that the cinema crowd missed out on — though, if we're honest, the bar for improvement was set pretty low. For reference, one critic handed it a 5 out of 10 and declared it all but laugh-free the first time around, so fingers crossed for some actual comedic value.

The plot is about as sensible as ever: 26 years since the original mayhem, Cindy, Brenda, Shorty, and Ray are unceremoniously yanked back into fresh chaos by yet another masked killer with commitment issues. At this point, I suspect even the cast have lost track of who's meant to be alive.

Reunion Tour

Michael Tiddes directs this new onslaught, roping in the loyal old crew: Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Anna Faris, and Regina Hall are back, joined by stalwarts like Kenan Thompson, Dave Sheridan, Lochlyn Munro, Carmen Electra, Chris Elliott, Anthony Anderson, and Cheri Oteri. Fair play to them — you can't say they didn't get the band back together.

Extras Piled High

This digital release is layered with bonus features, presumably for those who want to relive every moment in forensic detail. You get:

• The original theatrical cut (for masochists and completionists alike)
• A never-before-seen alternate ending (fingers crossed it's actually different)
• "Scream Together" reunion featurette
