Scarlett Johansson’s potential leap from Marvel to DC has fans buzzing about her possible role in The Batman Part II. Discover which iconic Gotham character she might portray and what this means for the much-anticipated sequel.

Scarlett Johansson, celebrated for her portrayal of Black Widow in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has set the rumour mill turning with reports of her possible involvement in the DC Universe. The Jojo Rabbit star is said to be in discussions to join the cast of the next instalment in Matt Reeves’ Batman series, a follow-up to the 2022 release.

Fan Theories and Character Speculation

As soon as news broke of Johansson’s potential casting in the Robert Pattinson-led sequel, fans wasted no time in speculating about which Gotham figure she might embody. The most popular suggestion has been Poison Ivy, a villainess famed for her botanical powers and immunity to toxins. Previously, Uma Thurman brought the character to life in the 1997 film Batman & Robin, and her performance remains memorable for many. Other names floated by fans include Talia al Ghul, the formidable daughter of Ra’s al Ghul, and the magical Zatanna. However, with recent developments, the situation appears less straightforward than first thought.

Cast Changes and Uncertainty

While anticipation builds around Johansson’s possible addition, another update has left fans somewhat puzzled. Reports indicate that Zoë Kravitz, who played Catwoman in the previous film, will not be returning for the sequel. Given Catwoman’s significant presence in the last outing, speculation has naturally turned to whether Johansson might step into that role. With details about her character still tightly under wraps, it remains unclear which direction the casting will take.

Production Progress and Release Plans

Preparations for the next chapter in Reeves’ Batman saga are well underway. The film is set to enter pre-production in January 2026, marking nearly five years since the last entry. Principal photography is scheduled to commence at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in London at the start of the year. According to the director, the script is complete and has been met with enthusiasm by the cast. Reeves commented:

Rob was super excited, I feel really excited about the idea that it’s gonna be, that we feel like we can reach farther and do even more than we did in the first one. And, I’m really excited to get back together with everybody that we made the film with, and, it’s gonna be fun.

With production moving forward, the film is expected to premiere on 1 October 2027, maintaining its current release date. The previous entry, released in March 2022, received strong reviews, with an IMDb score of 7.8/10 and high marks on Rotten Tomatoes.

Anticipation Builds for Gotham’s Next Chapter

As speculation continues over Johansson’s role and the evolving cast, excitement for the next Gotham tale remains high. The Batman is currently available to stream on HBO Max.
