Ryan Gosling is boarding a Daniels sci-fi adventure at Universal — and the studio is reportedly staking $150 million on the trip.

Well, here’s a team-up I didn’t have on my cinematic bingo card: Ryan Gosling is jumping into a huge sci-fi adventure with the Daniels (that’s Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, if you’re keeping score). These are the minds behind the fever dream that was 'Everything Everywhere All at Once,' and the flatulent whimsy of 'Swiss Army Man.' If nothing else, it’s gonna be weird — and, apparently, expensive.

A Budget That Defies Reality, Too

Word is, Universal is throwing a staggering $150 million at this movie. For perspective: 'Everything Everywhere All at Once' cost something like $14–25 million (which, for anyone who saw the movie, is still a miracle of creative budgeting). So, yeah, this one’s on another planet financially. There’s a five-year exclusive deal between Universal and the Daniels, signed in 2022, and this is the first giant leap on that contract.

Who’s Actually in This Thing?

Gosling is the first name out of the gate. He is, frankly, having a red-hot sci-fi streak — just look at 'Project Hail Mary', which saw him save the galaxy and rack up $322 million for Amazon MGM Studios. But it sounds like he won’t be alone in this new flick.

According to newsletter reporter Jeff Sneider, one of the stars from 'Swiss Army Man' or 'Everything Everywhere All at Once' will also join the cast. The rumor mill (okay, it’s just Sneider’s educated guess) favors either Ke Huy Quan or Paul Dano to co-star. If you ask me, either would fit perfectly with the Daniels’ brand of oddball chaos.

"By the way, I hear that one of the stars of those two films is going to co-star with Gosling," Sneider wrote. "My money is on Ke Huy Quan or Paul Dano, personally."

All the Important Details (What Little There Is)

  • Director/Producers: The Daniels are directing. They’re also producing, alongside their usual collaborator Jonathan Wang.
  • Where/When: Production kicks off this summer in Los Angeles.
  • Release Date: Mark your calendar for November 19, 2027. Universal’s putting it in theaters — no streaming debut here, at least not at first.
  • Plot: Absolutely nothing public, unless you count 'sci-fi adventure' as a plot. (I don’t.)

The Daniels Are Back for the First Time Since the Oscars

This is the first feature from the Daniels since 'Everything Everywhere All at Once' swept the Oscars with seven wins, including Best Picture and Best Director. And if you saw that movie, you know they’re not ones to play it safe — or cheap.

And Ryan Gosling’s Keeping Busy

By the time this new, as-yet-untitled Daniels-Gosling project lands in theaters, Gosling will have already suited up for 'Star Wars: Starfighter,' coming May 28, 2027. (Apparently keeping a five-year diary is the only way to make sense of his schedule.)

There’s pretty much zero info on the story or how the Daniels are planning to spend $150 million, but knowing their style, it’ll probably be something nobody’s expecting — maybe not even them.
