Ryan Gosling says he improvised one of Star Wars: Starfighter’s standout scenes — a creature encounter he teased in a BBC Radio chat — as he gears up to headline the standalone adventure.

Let’s talk about Ryan Gosling having what sounds like way too much fun in the Star Wars universe. Yep — aside from nabbing the lead in Star Wars: Starfighter, he’s apparently spent some quality time with a creature so lovable (or just weird?) that he brought a version of it back home. I’m genuinely intrigued.

Gosling and the Mystery Creature

So, in a recent BBC Radio interview — where the topic was movie props, not spoilers — Gosling got a little cagey when asked about cool memorabilia he’s kept from his films. This is where things get fun.

He said:

'There is a thing that happened on Star Wars—I’m going to have to tread carefully—but I went to the creature shop early to see everything that they were building so that I could find ways to interact with them in the film because I didn’t want them to just be going by in the background. And I found one very special one that was meant to be background, and I asked if I could have a scene [with it], and it ended up being one of the most fun scenes I’ve ever done.'

Translation: he walked into the Star Wars creature garage, saw some random alien destined for the blurry background, and basically bullied his way into a scene with it. He says that moment turned into one of his favorite things he’s ever shot. The guy wrangled an improvised scene with a space muppet and loved every second, which is a wonderful thing to picture.

And in true celebrity style, Gosling now owns his own miniature version of the creature. As he put it:

'As my wrap present, they made me a model. And so I have it in my house now, and if we weren’t being filmed, I would tell you the story about that, because it was fun.'

So there’s a mysterious alien living somewhere in Ryan Gosling’s house. I’d put money on it being a conversation starter, or at least a very confusing Roomba deterrent.

What Do We Actually Know About Starfighter?

Don’t expect to learn much about the plot anytime soon—Lucasfilm is keeping things tightly under wraps. Here’s what’s out there:

  • Gosling is the lead, joined by Flynn Gray (who plays a younger character that's central to the adventure)
  • The timeline is set roughly five years after Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker
  • The rest of the supporting cast is a solid spread: Matt Smith, Mia Goth, Aaron Pierre, Simon Bird, Jamael Westman, Daniel Ings, and yes, Amy Adams
  • Shawn Levy is in the director’s seat this time, with Jonathan Tropper writing the script
  • Release date? Mark your calendar for May 28, 2027—assuming it doesn’t get force-pushed down the road

Final Thoughts

So, if you’re the sort of person who lives for Star Wars oddities and unscripted moments (and get as much of a kick out of the behind-the-scenes as the actual movies), the story of Gosling and his new alien houseguest might be exactly your kind of pre-release hype. No wild revelations about the movie itself — but any film that lets its star improvise with puppets and walk away with a souvenir is at least aiming for memorable.
