Bridgerton breakout Regé-Jean Page says the Bond buzz around him is reaching fever pitch as the race for the next 007 heats up.

If you were hoping for a new James Bond movie to show up and shake (not stir) up cinema any time soon—well, don’t hold your breath. While just about every major Hollywood franchise is cranking out sequels and spinoffs left and right, 007 is still marooned in limbo. No script, no star, and honestly, no sign that MI6 is planning a mission anytime soon.

The Bond Gap: Welcome to the Waiting Game

The last time we saw Bond on the big screen was Daniel Craig’s dramatic exit in No Time to Die back in 2021. Now, we’re in the middle of what’s probably the second-longest drought between Bond movies ever. To put it in perspective, only that infamous six-year stretch between Timothy Dalton (License to Kill, 1989) and Pierce Brosnan (GoldenEye, 1995) was longer.

Since then, the franchise has changed hands yet again. In March 2025, Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson (the Bond gatekeepers for ages) handed the whole shebang to Amazon. Theoretically, that means new possibilities for Britain’s most famous spy, but honestly, so far—crickets.

Who's the Next Bond? (Still Nobody Knows)

Of course, every time there’s a Bond lull, casting rumors crank up to eleven. The search for Daniel Craig’s successor has become its own mini-industry. Here’s a quick rundown of some of the names who keep getting tossed around:

  • Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Kick-Ass): Probably leading the pack
  • Jacob Elordi (Frankenstein, Euphoria): The moody choice
  • Jonathan Bailey (Wicked): Riding high on the internet’s attention
  • Henry Cavill (Man of Steel): Tall, dark, and super-flexible
  • Tom Holland (Spider-Man): Box office gold, but do you buy him as 007?

And yes, Regé-Jean Page—the guy everyone’s mom has a crush on from Bridgerton—is still in the mix. Internet speculation around him has been borderline obsessive for years.

Regé-Jean Page: 'Strange' Days in Bondland

Regé-Jean Page did an interview with Esquire UK where he talked (as much as anyone can without accidentally revealing MI6 secrets) about what it’s like to be at the center of all this 007 fuss. If you think he’s basking in all the Bond buzz, think again—he calls the whole situation “strange” and admits it’s a lot to deal with.

'It is strange, it’s not normal. How I navigate it is very much about what is useful, what serves me in my job, in being able to deliver what I need to deliver to an audience, and a lot of that is just grounding.'

Translation: He’s trying not to lose his mind. Page said all the speculation gets “quite loud on the inside” and described the attention as “very, very intense,” to the point that he’s had to work—consciously—to keep life feeling normal.

'It does get quite loud on the inside, like it was very, very intense, that combination of conversation, and I think I worked quite consciously to be able to navigate that environment with some normalcy for myself.'

(Admit it, if Bond fans stalked you every time you left the house, you’d want a little normalcy too.)

Is a Regé-Jean Page 007 Actually Happening?

If there’s an unofficial Bond Watchlist, Page’s name has been on it for a while—ever since Bridgerton turned him into an overnight star. Even ex-007 Pierce Brosnan chimed in, saying Page would be “wonderful” in the signature tux. That’s high praise from a former Bond, but as of right now, none of this talk means a single thing for what’s next on screen.

Five years out from the last Bond movie, there’s still no concrete news about when—or even if—the franchise is going to reboot. Until then, all we can do is obsess over casting rumors, revisit the classics, and wait to see when Amazon decides to break radio silence.
