What would it take to get Rebel Moon 3 made? Zack Snyder has an answer
If you were banking on Rebel Moon 3, Zack Snyder’s update — via The Direct at TIFF — isn’t the news you were hoping for.
Time to face the music if you've been hanging on for Rebel Moon 3: Zack Snyder has finally had his say, and it's not exactly the rousing statement Netflix subscribers might have wanted. As it stands, the future of his space saga seems decidedly up in the air, with Snyder sounding fairly unsure about where things go from here.

Snyder Gets Cautious
That's honestly the most direct answer he's given so far. If you want a bit more detail, he went on to explain his current thinking about the franchise. Snyder reckons that maybe, just maybe, if his director's cuts manage to pick up more steam and find a bigger audience, there could be momentum for another.
As Snyder explained, 'I made those – the director’s cuts of the movies, and I just think it’s, like, one of those things where – and I do feel it, you know, is that as those maybe, like, get a little bit more popular and sort of, like, get discovered, then there’s a little bit more groundswell about maybe making another one.'
If you're picking up a slightly hesitant vibe, you're not alone. The man who's spent plenty of time teasing multi-part cinematic universes is now playing things rather close to his chest. No hard news has surfaced on any actual sequel development, either. So, for now, Rebel Moon 3 might as well live in a black hole.

Previous Hype & The Films So Far
If all this feels like a bit of a wet blanket after prior optimism, you're remembering right. Last year, series co-writer Kurt Johnstad was pitching much loftier ambitions. He told the Minutemen Podcast they had step-by-step outlines for parts three, four, five, and even six—Snyder apparently has every corner of this galaxy mapped out already. But these grand plans may have bumped into reality, or maybe just Netflix viewing numbers.
- Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire landed in 2023, introducing us to a galaxy oppressed by the militarised Motherworld, where Kora (a former Imperium soldier) starts gathering a ragtag band to rebel against her old bosses.
- Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver followed in 2024, picking up immediately after the first, with Kora and her crew teaming up with Veldt's farmers to defend their home world from the empire's next attack.

There's a hefty cast at work here too—Sofia Boutella, Djimon Hounsou, Ed Skrein, Michiel Huisman, Bae Doona, Anthony Hopkins, Charlie Hunnam, and a fair few more turn up, all trying very hard to sell you on this interstellar mix of Seven Samurai and Star Wars.
The two current Rebel Moon films have been out since 2023 and 2024, with no active greenlight for a third installment.
