Rebecca Ferguson and Greta Lee are teaming for a London-shot romcom about two strangers who meet mid-air — and Deadline has revealed its eyebrow-raising title.
Right, so here comes a proper odd couple: Rebecca Ferguson and Greta Lee are teaming up for a brand new romantic comedy, with the working title Honeymoon/Funeral. If you saw them out filming in London lately and wondered what on earth brings these two together, it’s this — a film with what I’d call a slightly dark but promising premise: two perfect strangers, one dealing with heartbreak, the other fresh from a loss, and they’re stuck together after a chance meeting on a flight from LA to London. It’s a bit Strangers on a Train meets, well, mismatched travel diaries.
Honeymoon/Funeral is targeting a summer 2027 cinema release.
Let’s break down what we know so far: Ferguson plays a bride abandoned at the altar by her girlfriend, off to what should've been her honeymoon, alone. Lee’s character, meanwhile, is on her way home for her mother’s funeral. Instead of hiding in their hotel rooms with room service and regrets, these two women wind up spending a week together in London. Expect awkward encounters and, I suspect, a fair bit of unexpectedly sharp banter.
Behind the Scenes
The movie's directed by Nahnatchka Khan (yep, the one behind Always Be My Maybe), who’s also producing alongside Jennifer Carreras under their Fierce Baby banner. The financial backing and production side come courtesy of MRC. The script is by Julia Bicknell, who’s also stepped up as a producer.
Thanks to FilmNation for handling the international rights — they’ll start pushing the rom-com at the Toronto International Film Festival market later this year, so expect more details to drip-feed out after that circus kicks off.
Two Leads, Decent Pedigrees
Ferguson and Lee actually crossed paths before on Netflix’s A House of Dynamite (which, frankly, deserves more talk than it gets), so it isn’t totally random casting. Ferguson, currently wrapped up as star and executive producer on Apple TV’s Silo, is also lined up for Dune: Part Three as Lady Jessica. Lee, who’s enjoyed her fair share of award attention — Golden Globe, Independent Spirit, Critics’ Choice noms for Past Lives — comes off the back of films like The Last House, Late Fame, and some voicework for Toy Story 5.
As for actual footage, don’t hold your breath just yet: production’s only just underway and details are still fairly well-guarded. But Honeymoon/Funeral is aiming for a summer 2027 launch in cinemas, so put that on your long, long-term radar if you’re a fan of either lead (or just like your rom-coms with extra baggage).
