Ready your pause button: Paul Bettany promises a ‘surplus’ of MCU Easter eggs in VisionQuest

I know, another Marvel series. Trust me, I had the same thought—but VisionQuest is shaping up to be a bit of a magnet for die-hard MCU obsessives and anyone with a soft spot for the world’s most anxiety-prone android. Paul Bettany is gearing up to put the white paint back on for this new Disney+ show, and if you’re the sort who can name every minor Avenger by memory, he reckons you’ll be busy freeze-framing.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight about what fans can expect, Bettany didn’t hold back: 'There will be a surplus of Easter eggs.'

He even joked that some of these nods and winks are hiding in plain sight—quite literally sewn into his costume—so expect the internet to get awfully forensic about high-res promo shots.

Expect Surprises, Cameos—and Secrets

The burning question, obviously, is whether Elizabeth Olsen will actually pop up as Wanda. Bettany, ever the diplomat (or perhaps just as in the dark as the rest of us), kept his cards hilariously close to his chest, saying it’s 'a matter of secrecy,' and apparently, it’s 'secret even to me.' Honestly, that man’s poker face deserves its own BAFTA at this point.

The actor also teased 'other surprises' and big reveals, hinting that this won’t just be a spot-the-references exercise, but a series with proper stakes and presumably a few curveballs. He’s calling the whole story 'really compelling and entertaining.' You can insert the usual Marvel caveat there, but at least it sounds like more than just endless MCU name-drops.

Plot, Cast, and That Villain Return

Right, let’s get technical. VisionQuest tackles the fallout from where WandaVision left Vision: original Vision—gone, Scarlet Witch created a new one out of grief, then S.W.O.R.D. rebuilt the body as White Vision, who, after a rather trippy brain upload, regained all his memories and promptly buggered off out of Westview. This new series is all about what happens to him next, as Vision tries to answer the rather existential questions about who (or what) he even is now.

And because you demanded it—or perhaps nobody saw it coming—James Spader is also back as Ultron, the robot villain last properly seen causing carnage in Age of Ultron. He’s joined by a cast that includes Ruaridh Mollica, Todd Stashwick, T'Nia Miller, Lauren Morais, Orla Brady, Diane Morgan, Polly Frame, Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer, Emily Hampshire, and James D'Arcy. Sorry, still no confirmation about Wanda, but it’s quite the line-up—as you’d expect with ex-Star Trek: Picard boss Terry Matalas running the show. For MCU completists, this one follows WandaVision and Agatha All Along to make up the small-screen trilogy.
