Prime Video shakes up Off Campus for season 2, putting Dean and Allie front and center as Hannah and Garrett hand over the lead.

Right, so here’s a switch you don’t see all that often: Off Campus, that huge Prime Video hockey romance everyone’s been glued to lately, has decided to shake things up for Season 2 while it’s still riding high. Most shows wouldn’t dream of changing gears at this stage, but here we are—Amazon’s already confirmed they’re swapping the leads, even as the show is busy topping the streaming charts.

If you’ve not been keeping up, Off Campus is adapted from Elle Kennedy’s “Briar University” novels, and its first few weeks have basically been a record-busting run for Prime Video. It managed to knock The Boys off its perch and landed one of the platform’s biggest-ever launches. And now, as the dust barely settles, Amazon’s dropped a proper curveball about what comes next.

Who’s Getting the Spotlight Next?

Gone are Hannah and Garrett as the central couple (though don’t panic—they’re not being written out). Instead, Season 2 will follow Allie Hayes (played by Mika Abdalla) and Dean Di Laurentis (Stephen Kalyn), another pair who’ve been skulking around the margins since the start. If you clocked their background tension in the earlier episodes, well spotted, because the show’s been laying the groundwork all along—the big finale cliffhanger was entirely about them.

To be fair, this format isn’t a total invention—if you’ve watched Bridgerton, you know the drill: one couple takes centre stage each season, but everyone else keeps milling around in the background for continuity. The showrunner, Louisa Levy, has tried to settle fans by insisting, in her words:

'Hannah and Garrett will still be an integral part of our robust ensemble.'

Levy also said the whole team is 'so excited to continue Allie and Dean’s story as our primary romance of Season 2.'

Mixing Up the Source Material

Here’s a mildly surprising twist: rather than adapt Kennedy’s second novel, The Mistake, the show’s skipping ahead to book three, The Score, in order to give Allie and Dean their own season sooner. That doesn’t mean the characters from The Mistake are gone, though—Season 2 is introducing India Fowler as Grace Ivers and Antonio Cipriano as John Logan (the romance at the heart of The Mistake), basically laying the tracks for a future season, just like they did with Allie and Dean in the first run.

Who’s In, Who’s Out, and Who’s New

  • Exiting: Josh Heuston, who played Justin Kohl—the moody musician that rounded out the love triangle in Season 1—won’t be back. The official line is scheduling conflicts. Levy’s apparently left the door open for his return, but only when his eventual romantic partner, Stella, shows up in the story.
  • Arriving: Hamilton alum Phillipa Soo signs on as Scarlett, a theatre artist who’ll be guest-directing an original play at Briar’s drama department. That’s a tidy bit of synergy, seeing as Allie’s whole thing is being a drama student.
  • New romances being set up: India Fowler (Grace Ivers) and Antonio Cipriano (John Logan) make their debut this season, with an eye to their own main event down the line.

Why All the Confidence?

Honestly, it’s hard to blame Amazon for taking a gamble. Off Campus pulled in a ridiculous 36 million viewers around the world in just twelve days, making it Prime Video’s third most-watched debut, only behind the behemoths that are The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power and Fallout. Among women aged 18–34, it topped every other series debut on the platform. Rotten Tomatoes has it at 96% with critics and 89% with audiences, so the numbers are just as shiny as you’d expect.

Filming for Season 2 is underway in Vancouver through the summer, with a release apparently targeted at mid-2027. As for whether Justin (Josh Heuston) is ever coming back, Levy’s keeping that thread dangling quite deliberately.
