Pluribus Season 2 Levels Up As Filming Window Comes Into Focus
Pluribus Season 2 is kicking into gear, with writer-director Gordon Smith revealing the team is deep into scripts and now circling a tentative filming window.
If you’ve been waiting for news on ‘Pluribus’ Season 2, you’re in luck – we’ve had a few proper nuggets of info drop, and not before time. The Apple TV+ sci-fi series with Rhea Seehorn at the helm made a fair few headlines with its first run, and it looks like the follow-up is quietly grinding along behind the scenes. Here’s exactly where things stand, straight from those putting pen to paper (and occasionally yelling at whiteboards).
Where the Writers Actually Are
Gordon Smith, who isn’t just scribbling scripts but also directed three episodes of the first season, recently told Variety that they’re “about midway through” breaking the story for Season 2. Now, according to him, this isn’t a lightning-fast process – and frankly the timeline backs that up. He admitted, quite openly:
'We are writing, we’re about midway through Season 2, breaking it. We’re doing the best we can and we’re hoping to get back to work shooting sometime hopefully by the end of this year or early next year.'
Not exactly an ‘it’s in the can’ announcement, but better than radio silence. If you’re keeping tabs, that means actual filming might be on for late 2026 or early 2027. Pace yourselves… there’s a way to go yet before anyone’s yelling ‘Action!’ on set.
Trouble in Sci-Fi Paradise?
For those wondering where the story’s going, Vince Gilligan, the showrunner and original creator, has been teasing what Season 2 might poke at – and in typical Gilligan fashion, it seems he’s attempting to swerve audience expectations. Last month, Gilligan hinted to Entertainment Weekly that we might (or might not) find out whether “The Others” have sinister motives after all. His quote sums up the approach:
'We are all trained to watch science fiction, and indeed every kind of genre show, to look for the tropes: This happens, so therefore this happens, so therefore a twist is coming. [Sometimes] less and more — even though we hit every trope I could think of in the first episode, just to have fun with it and subvert it. Going forward, I'm sure we'll hit a few more along the way, but sometimes the most fun thing to do is what you're not expecting.'
Translation: just when you think you’ve guessed the twist, they might not bother with one at all. Or they might. Classic Gilligan, really.
Who’s Who in ‘Pluribus’
The main lineup for the first season is back in the Apple TV+ catalogue (all nine episodes streaming if you want to catch up). The cast, by the way, is actually quite solid:
