Disney+ has set the streaming debut for Hoppers, Pixar’s critically acclaimed sci-fi comedy from director Daniel Chong, following its March theatrical run.

Pixar’s latest bit of animated brilliance, ‘Hoppers’, is finally heading to Disney+ – not for a while yet, mind. If you didn’t catch it at the cinema back in March, or simply fancy watching a girl transfer her mind into an animatronic beaver from your own sofa, here’s what you need to know.

Streaming Release: But Not Anytime Soon

Brace yourself: ‘Hoppers’ doesn’t land on Disney+ until 3 June 2026. Pixar put out a short teaser just to announce the date, so no one misses their spot in the queue.

What on Earth Is ‘Hoppers’ Actually About?

If you’re imagining typical Pixar soul-searching, rabbit holes, or friendly monsters, think again. ‘Hoppers’ is that kind of left-field studio bet people will be dissecting for years. It’s a sci-fi comedy centred on Mabel Tanaka – a wildlife obsessive who gets the chance to use some new-fangled tech to literally ‘hop’ her entire consciousness into a near-perfect robotic beaver. She fancies herself as Doctor Dolittle (with added circuit boards), but pretty soon discovers she’s the last hope to stop a looming crisis threatening the entire animal world.

The studio synopsis puts it simply enough:

'In this animated comedy adventure, animal lover Mabel seizes an opportunity to use a new technology to "hop" her consciousness into a lifelike robotic beaver and communicate directly with animals. As she makes amazing discoveries, Mabel befriends a charismatic beaver and must rally the entire animal kingdom to face a major, imminent, human threat.'

Voice Cast and Crew: Genuinely Packed

  • Piper Curda as Mabel Tanaka (our human-turned-beaver heroine)
  • Bobby Moynihan plays King George
  • Jon Hamm is Jerry Generazzo
  • Kathy Najimy as Dr. Sam Fairfax
  • Dave Franco voicing Titus
  • Eduardo Franco as Loaf
  • Sam Richardson as Conner
  • Meryl Streep does the voice of the Insect Queen (because it’s Pixar, so of course she does)

Directing duties belong to Daniel Chong. Nicole Paradis Grindle is the producer, and as per studio tradition, they’ve got executive producers out the ears: Pete Docter, Peter Sohn, and Kiri Hart. The script is from Jesse Andrews, based on a story he cooked up with Chong.

How Did It Do? (Numbers, Ratings, All That)

Pretty well, actually. ‘Hoppers’ currently holds a whopper of a Rotten Tomatoes score: 94% with critics (out of 222 reviews) and a 93% audience approval. That’s a lot of people who’ve clearly got time for robot wildlife. Globally, the box office ended up on about $386 million – can’t knock that for an oddball concept about mind-swapping and critter revolution.

As ever, the sequel speculation’s already started. Chong says he’d be up for another go, but at the moment, Pixar and Disney haven’t made any official noises about a follow-up.
