Percy Jackson’s Next Quest: New Spin-off Revealed With Release Date
Demigod devotees, rejoice: Rick Riordan is expanding the Percy Jackson universe with a Camp Half-Blood spin-off set during the years Percy was missing—new heroes, new quests, and a release window now locked in.
If you thought the Percy Jackson universe was tapped out, think again. Rick Riordan is cooking up a new spin-off series that digs right into the era when Percy and the original crew weren't even at Camp Half-Blood. Yes, the training ground for demigods is about to get a brand-new set of stories, and it looks like we’re going to get our first book pretty soon. Here’s what’s happening:
Camp Half-Blood Returns—Minus Percy
So, here’s the pitch: Riordan is launching a new book series called ‘Camp Half-Blood’ (no points for subtlety on that title), and it’ll be set smack between the events of his first two classics—The Lightning Thief and The Sea of Monsters. So we’re talking about the original timeline, but during the big gaps when Percy, Annabeth, and Grover were off having their own adventures. Ever wondered what's happening at camp while the main heroes are missing? Apparently, so did Riordan while he was working on the Disney+ TV show adaptation, and he decided to fill in those blanks.
According to his website, the first book in the new series is called The Wild Zone, and it’s arriving on September 29, 2026. That’s not exactly around the corner, but if you’re a completist, mark your calendar now.
‘It made me wonder what was happening back at camp between the books of the original series, when Percy, Annabeth, and Grover weren’t around,’ Riordan said. ‘This new series gives me a chance to explore that idea, while opening up Percy’s world by introducing a new group of demigod heroes, co-created with amazing authors who can write authentically about those heroes’ backgrounds. It’s been an incredible thrill!’
A New Crew of Co-Authors
Unlike previous runs, Riordan is co-writing these stories with other writers. The first book, The Wild Zone, is co-written with Annabelle Oh. For books two, three, and four, Kyle Lukoff, Jade Adia, and Pablo Cartaya will each be partnering with Riordan. The plan is to release each book about six months apart—so once this train leaves the station, we’re getting a steady flow of camp drama.

What’s the New Story?
Instead of just rehashing Percy’s greatest hits, The Wild Zone is introducing a fresh lineup of demigod heroes. The basic setup: Some campers go missing under mysterious circumstances (never a good sign in these books), setting off a hunt that uncovers ancient threats, forgotten secrets, and probably a few creatures no one wants to meet in the woods. With Percy and crew off the grid, the new kids are forced to step up and deal with monsters, curses, and decisions that aren’t as easy as they look in Greek mythology class.
Oh, and About That TV Show…
If you’d rather see your mythological drama onscreen, the Disney+ Percy Jackson series isn’t slowing down either—a third season is expected to drop later this year (it’ll be streaming on both Disney+ and Hulu, for those keeping score).
If nothing else, Riordan knows his audience. There’s been a tidal wave of Percy Jackson content since the first book hit shelves in 2005, to the tune of more than 150 million copies sold worldwide—a number that’s probably going to keep climbing with this new batch of stories. Whether you’re a diehard reader or just want to see what’s happening at camp when the A-listers aren’t around, pencil in September 2026 on your calendar.
