Ouch: Paul Bettany’s kids call Vision the 'worst Avenger' — about that MCU legacy
Paul Bettany told Good Morning America his kids aren’t the slightest bit impressed he’s an Avenger — and their verdict on Vision stings.
So, you'd think being a superpowered synthezoid in the MCU would be enough to win you some respect at home. Not for Paul Bettany. According to the man himself, his own kids aren't exactly dazzled by the fact their dad spends his working days battling intergalactic threats as Vision.
On Good Morning America this week, Bettany admitted, "Oh no, absolutely not!" when asked if his children were excited to have an Avenger for a father.
Of course, he didn't leave it there. Bettany went on to share a story that, frankly, is almost too perfect. Apparently, every time he tries to sign in to Disney+, his account gets a little unwanted makeover courtesy of his children. They swap in a vision (no pun intended) of their dad as Vision, then label it 'The Worst Avenger'. Subtle. Bettany kept the guessing game going, joking he's still trying to work out which of his kids is behind it, though he reckons odds are fairly strong it's his daughter.
The Family Setup
For context, Bettany shares two children with fellow actor Jennifer Connelly. Their son Stellan was born in 2003, and daughter Agnes arrived in 2011. So both are well old enough to run rings around their dad's Disney+ login if they fancy it.
VisionQuest: The New Series
If the kids are unimpressed by the MCU, the rest of us are gearing up for VisionQuest, Marvel's next slice of Disney+ ambition. Bettany returns, of course, as Vision—a synthetic man now on the run, and coping with an existential crisis after his latest resurrection in WandaVision. The setup sees Vision not only dodging bounty hunters, but also dealing with all sorts of AI personas lurking in his own programming. Oh, and teaming up with a mysterious teenager who just might be a new version of his in-universe son. Marvel lore is never simple, is it?
