Only Murders in the Building season 6 snags Bridgerton star as seven more join the cast
Only Murders in the Building Season 6 is loading up with seven new faces, including a Bridgerton star, as filming rolls — and set snaps hint that Da'Vine Joy Randolph is back as Detective Williams. Still no word on whether any Season 5 guest stars will return.
If you thought Only Murders in the Building had found every way to surprise viewers (and apparently half the guest stars in Hollywood), think again. Series six is officially in production, and for the first time, the action isn’t unfolding in New York — they’ve decamped to the UK. Which probably means someone’s about to get bumped off in fancier surroundings (or just surrounded by more rain and biscuits).
Who’s Joining This Time?
The big news, if you missed it, is a bumper batch of new cast members — with a definite British slant. Courtesy of a report in Deadline, here are the seven names you’ll be seeing dodging murders and possibly accents:
- Jennifer Saunders
- Sean Teale
- Simone Ashley (the one and only Kate from Bridgerton)
- Amar Chadha-Patel
- Rhea Norwood
- Matthew Beard
- Sharon Horgan
Simone Ashley is obviously the headline here if you have a thing for Regency gossip or just fancy seeing her swap period drama pining for murder (solving, not committing, one assumes).
Who’s Sticking Around?
No official word yet on which of last season's guest stars might be back for more sleuthing — it’s all a bit hush-hush. But Da'Vine Joy Randolph (Detective Williams), who’s built a bit of a fanbase herself, was spotted in some set pics doing the rounds online. So odds are she hasn't handed in her badge for good.
So What’s the Setup This Year?
Much like the murders themselves, plot details are being kept properly locked up. What we do know is that the production is happening over here in Britain, the first time Only Murders has ventured off its New York patch since it began. In case you need a refresher, the show’s built around three distinctly odd New Yorkers — played by Selena Gomez, Martin Short, and Steve Martin — who fight boredom (and police incompetence) by starting their own true crime podcast every time someone kicks the bucket in their building. It’s created by Steve Martin and John Hoffman, in case you’re keeping score at home.
Last Season in Brief
The official blurb for season five, which just wrapped, went like this:
'After their beloved doorman, Lester, dies under suspicious circumstances, Charles, Oliver, and Mabel refuse to believe it was an accident. Their investigation plunges them into the shadowy corners of New York and beyond — where the trio uncovers a dangerous web of secrets connecting powerful billionaires, old-school mobsters, and the mysterious residents of the Arconia. The trio discovers a deeper divide between their storied city they thought they knew, and the new New York evolving around them — one where the old mob fights to hold on as newer, even more dangerous players emerge.'
That’s probably as close to an explanation as we’ll get for "why is the American show suddenly filming in the UK?" but as always with this lot, expect a labyrinthine explanation (and at least one chat about cheese).
Still no premiere date for season six, so you’ll have to occupy yourself with guessing which A-listers might pop up next. Guest lists in previous years have somehow included Meryl Streep, Paul Rudd, Nathan Lane, Tina Fey, and Jane Lynch, so at this point, they could resurrect Laurence Olivier and no one would bat an eyelid.
