Only Murders in the Building season 6 locks its release date
Only Murders in the Building Season 6 has a date at last — with a left-field twist — and Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez return.
Right, so if you thought Only Murders in the Building had settled into a comfortable groove with its "podcast-nerds-solve-crimes-in-New-York" formula, brace yourself. Season 6 has not only locked its release date, it's also shaking things up more than a bit, both on the calendar and on the map. And no, this isn't just a quirky scheduling blip—there's a proper reason behind it.
Only Murders in the Building Season 6 will land on Hulu on 8 December 2026, a full three months later than usual, thanks to the show's new filming location in London.
In case you hadn't noticed, every previous season of this speedy little mystery show turned up at the end of summer or start of autumn, right on the dot. This time, though, Hulu's dropped a December release date—making it practically a Christmas boxset, only with a bit more murder and a lot less tinsel. The reason given is pretty straightforward: scheduling complications from shipping cast, crew, and (presumably) a lot of fake blood across the Atlantic to shoot in London instead of the usual New York backdrop. Which means, yes, your favourite trio are swapping the Arconia for something a bit foggier and a fair bit further east.
Who's on board for the London run?
The cast list this year is getting rather impressive, to put it mildly. Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez are all back, obviously, but the guest star count has hit a new high for season 6; even by this show's standards, that's saying something. Olivia Colman is the headline newcomer—she's officially confirmed, via the show's own Instagram, and Gomez herself couldn't resist bigging up the cavalcade of guest stars they've assembled ("We have had so many amazing guest stars for Only Murders in the Building."). Meryl Streep, not to be outdone, chimed in as well, apparently teasing that the cast list was "just missing one" before Colman joined the party.
- Olivia Colman (recently of The Crown, Broadchurch, you know the drill)
- Peter Capaldi, Jodie Whittaker, and David Tennant—if you're into ex-Doctors, you're covered
- Also: Jim Broadbent, Lesley Nicol, Jamie Demetriou, Jane Horrocks, Matthew Beard, Geri Halliwell-Horner, Martin Freeman, Sharon Horgan, Nicola Coughlan, Anjana Vasan, Derek Jacobi, Richard Ayoade, Adrian Lukis, Kathryn Hunter, Jennifer Saunders, Sean Teale, Simone Ashley, Amar Chadha-Patel, and Rhea Norwood.
Yes, that's an actual who's who of British telly and Hollywood. If you can't find someone to get excited about in that lot, I can't help you.
From New York to London—with a murder in tow
The plot for this round picks up straight after last season's cliffhanger—where Tina Fey's Cinda Canning (the acerbic true crime podcast queen) met an untimely end. Now the core trio—Charles, Oliver, and Mabel—are packing their microphones and crossing the pond to do what they do best: poke around in a murder case that's probably none of their business, except this time, they're in the UK. The setting change comes with a wink from showrunner John Hoffman, who described it as
There's a good holiday treat coming your way: a bit of murder in London.
Straight from the horse's mouth and just unsubtle enough that yes, you should expect the Christmas trimmings to mix with their usual brand of mayhem (and probably a foggy Thames shot or two for good measure).
Tune your schedules: Only Murders in the Building returns to Hulu on 8 December 2026.
