Only Murders in the Building season 6 has locked in an Oscar-winning A-lister, with the reveal made on Instagram.

Look, Only Murders in the Building has already made a habit of collecting big names like they're trading cards. Now, Olivia Colman—yes, that Olivia Colman, Oscar in hand—is joining the party for season 6. The news popped up on the show's official Instagram, of all places, because apparently, casting updates are now social media events. It comes after some cheeky teasing: Selena Gomez hyped up past guest stars, only for Meryl Streep herself to chime in with the line that they're 'just missing one.' Clearly, the one was Colman. Casting that good almost feels like showing off.

Olivia Colman is now officially part of Only Murders in the Building—announced on Instagram, straight from the show’s own account.

If for some odd reason you slept through the last five years of entertainment news: Colman won her Best Actress Oscar in 2019 for The Favourite. She's had more nominations since, but frankly, once you've got the statue, who's counting?

New faces and old favourites

It wouldn't be Only Murders without a ridiculous number of stars crammed into the Arconia, and season 6 is dialling it up yet again. Alongside Colman, the regular cast is back—Martin Short, Steve Martin, Selena Gomez—and then you've got a who's who of British telly joining in:

  • Peter Capaldi
  • Jodie Whittaker
  • David Tennant
  • Jim Broadbent

And the guest cast is packed, for lack of a better word: Lesley Nicol, Anjana Vasan, Derek Jacobi, Jamie Demetriou, Jane Horrocks, Matthew Beard, Geri Halliwell-Horner (yes, that Geri), Martin Freeman, Sharon Horgan, Nicola Coughlan, Richard Ayoade, Adrian Lukis, Kathryn Hunter, Jennifer Saunders, Sean Teale, Simone Ashley, Amar Chadha-Patel, Rhea Norwood—the list sort of goes on, and on. Safe to say, the guest stars alone could fill the O2.

Where we left off

Last series ended with a proper curveball: Tina Fey's Cinda Canning, the podcaster who's popped in and out for a few years now, was found dead. Not subtle about where season 6 is headed—the whole mystery is now focused on working out who knocked off Canning. Guessing there'll be at least four red herrings, three false confessions, and probably a group singalong before the truth comes out.

There is still no confirmed premiere date for Only Murders in the Building season 6.

The official line is that the release date is still up in the air, so we don't know yet when Colman and co will actually grace our screens. Typical: all the stars in the world, but no calendar commitment.
