Noah Schnapp will lead Stealing From Pablo, about kids who partied in Escobar's mansion
Stranger Things’ Noah Schnapp is set to star in a thriller based on real events, with a Gotham actor and a City of God star also aboard.
Noah Schnapp, best-known for having a tough time of it in Netflix's Stranger Things, is gearing up for a very different sort of nightmare. The actor's lined up to lead a new thriller called Stealing From Pablo — and yes, that Pablo — based on a genuinely bonkers slice of Florida history from the 1980s. The film throws together a cast that includes David Mazouz (the kid from Gotham) and Seu Jorge (famous for City of God), so there's plenty going on here even before you get to the plot, which honestly sounds wild.
Stealing From Pablo is set to begin international sales at the Toronto International Film Festival, through Myriad Pictures.
The premise: Foster kids vs Pablo Escobar
The set-up manages to combine runaway-teen chaos with narco-empire madness. Schnapp plays Red, a foster kid who ropes his friend Dylan into an underground skateboarding bash — held, naturally, in a conveniently abandoned mansion. Trouble is, this mansion is owned by none other than Pablo Escobar himself, so the adrenaline quickly sours into sheer panic. Once the pair get mixed up with Escobar’s web (and specifically with his financial guy and an assassin who's just as cheerful as you'd imagine), things escalate. Let’s just say the whole true events angle doesn’t exactly make you feel better for the boys’ chances.
The director on this one is Carlos V. Gutierrez. David Mazouz and Seu Jorge aren’t just collecting paycheques, either; Mazouz probably brings some Gotham grit, while Jorge is a solid addition with City of God on his CV.
On the production side: Fabio Golombek and Shannon Alexander are steering the ship, with Schnapp, Jorge, Alex Cohen, and Marco Gomez listed as executive producers. They're backing the project at FJ Productions.
Schnapp’s career: More than Upside Down
Might as well take a quick detour through Noah Schnapp’s other work, as he’s been cropping up in more than just Duffer Bros-ville. Besides wrestling demogorgons, you might have seen him in The Tutor, Hubie Halloween, or Waiting for Anya. He also shared scenes with Seu Jorge in the indie flick Abe. Then there’s animation: Schnapp's lent his voice to The Peanuts Movie, Snoopy's Grand Adventure, and The Legend of Hallowaiian.
He’s also about to hit the stage for the first time, starring in the play Affluenza at Riverside Studios in London, written and directed by Andy Sandberg. It’s set to run from 26 September to 21 November 2026. Worth noting: Schnapp’s revealed he’ll be playing two completely different roles in that production — not bad for a first attempt at live theatre.
