As Man of Tomorrow’s assembly cut comes together, James Gunn’s already onto the next film — and his Threads update reveals the canny way he’s juggling both.

If there’s one thing James Gunn absolutely refuses to do, it’s take a proper break. The man just wrapped his latest DC film and, as it turns out, he’s already tapping away at his next mysterious project. On the heels of finishing work on Man of Tomorrow, Gunn has let slip that he’s not exactly sitting on his hands while the editing team try to stitch together his Superman sequel.

Man of Tomorrow wrapped filming on 26 August 2026, after 93 days on set.

Gunn Teases What’s Next — Sort Of

The latest breadcrumb comes courtesy of Gunn’s Threads account. On 4 October 2026, a fan cheekily asked whether he was already working on his next script. Gunn’s answer? 'Already in it.' He added that he 'had to do something' while the team slog through the Man of Tomorrow assembly cut. As usual, he gave up nothing else: no title, no universe, not even a wink about a genre. Classic Gunn — as chatty as he is, he’s the king of not actually telling you anything before he’s good and ready.

Speculation Runs Wild (As Usual)

Because obviously, the internet immediately went into sleuth mode. Fan theories sprang up about a potential third Superman film — with Mongul namedropped as a possible villain by the eager ones. Did Gunn respond? Of course not. He’s left the guesses to simmer, as is now tradition. After all, he waited a solid two months after Superman (the 2025 reboot) hit cinemas before tipping his hand on Man of Tomorrow itself. Plus, one fan slyly pointed out online that Gunn gets a kick out of stringing fans along while the speculation machine goes haywire.

Where Does That Leave Things?

What is confirmed: Man of Tomorrow is locked in for release on 9 July 2027 through Warner Bros. Pictures, with David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult returning as Superman and Lex Luthor, and Lars Eidinger turning up as Brainiac. But as for what’s next from Gunn? Not a single official detail — not even the faintest whiff of a genre or a franchise. He could just as easily be scribbling another DC saga as something completely outside the comic book world. If his past reveal schedule is anything to go by, fans shouldn’t expect hard info for months yet.
